autocast

when using hoshikos with their abilities on autocast, they seem to just move around and attack without automatically using their abilities to heal my ships or sabotage enemies. this occurs even when i have several damaged ships in the near vicinity. i think this also happens with iconus guardians, they don't auto-project shields in battle.

Autocast will never override one of your explicit orders.  If you give the hoshiko a move or attack order, it will do this instead of automatically healing.  Just give them a "stop" order and they'll revert to autocast behavior.  This is why I usually keep them in a separate control group from the rest of my frigates.

thanks, i was trying to get them to autoheal by moving them in the general direction of my other ships

I actually separate fleet them as well as my carriers. Groups I use a lot on planet choke points or SBs, a couple for main cap ship in fleet. This way I can quickly jump around the map.

if you set a tec starbase's self destruct ability on autocast, will it automatically explode once it reaches a certain level of health?

because i did that, and when i looked back it was gone, but i wasn't sure if it self-destructed or was simply destroyed

If u tell it to go to a ship, it will generally heal that ship if it needs it.

It will attempt to blow its self up once it reaches ~5% hp i do think....or it could be less. But at any rate usually before it can finish the charge up timer, it can get itself blown up. Even against the AI. Best you blow it up manually. Give it plenty of time for the charge up and then watch the fireworks.
