why does the AI hate on my disciples?

I'm curious. I often play as Advent, and mid-late game against the AI, I have this issue where I'm constantly replacing my disciples. The AI seems to target them first when it targets frigates. It wouldnt be my choice, as there are illuminators, gaurdians, capitals, HCs, idk all that seems to be much higher priority to me. I only replace them because they keep targeting those first and it keeps them off my more valuable ships. Otherwise, I'd only keep a handful for AM regen purposes

Does anyone know why this might be?

Well, I know the AI's LRF will prioritize your LF, which does make sense.  Other than that, I'm pulling a blank.  I was under the impression that the AI tries to target units that it counters.

thing is they still die ridiculously fast even if the AI has a low amount of LRFs.

HCs and LRFs are both counters to LFs...since HCs and LRFs are the dominate frigate/cruisers, whatever they counter isn't going to stand much of a chance...

In my experience, certain ships continually are attacked by the AI first...why, I don't know, but it would seem that is how they are programmed...flak and carriers are usually the last ships to be attacked, with LF and HCs the first...certain support cruisers (like dominas) tend to get killed quickly as well...

It is ironic since if I lapse a little bit while watching the battle my own ships almost always prioritize the enemy flak when taking neutral planets. So then I curse and shift click my full order and then go back to my other empire multi-tasking.

It just seems wrong to me that building LFs is pointless late in the game. Every ship should contribute to the fleet. I want to put them in for their AM thievary, but they seem to die or whittle down to near non-existence in a few seconds.

Hey, balance patch guys! maybe a late game tech to make them more resilient? eh?

Actually I have found LFs do serve a role. As AI cannon fodder. 10 or 12 disciples late game is cheap. Pack them in the middle of the battle ball, protected by guardian shield bubbles, repulse, and the mothership. The strikecraft targets the Destras but that is what TK push is for. I don't even bother to have the LF attack just sit with hold position in middle of fleet. Yes they die but they give you crucial time. So once they are dead, the AI suddenly realizes (or I guess it doesn't it isn't HAL yet) that its Hoshikos / guardians / subverters / overseers are dead instead.

I don't usually do this as Vasari since Skirmishers are so darn expensive comparatively. But I suppose I could.
