I really dislike the gimmick of content that isn't available to everyone, especially when it affects game play. Will everyone have access to this? We all pay for the same game.
EDIT: If its something silly like, a real item (AKA figurine or soundtrack CD) its not a big deal. But when its actually enhances the game in some way...
Double edit: We all get the exclusive content eventually! Wohoo! Fears are assauged! Thank you Stardock / Frogboy! Silly of me to doubt.
Yes. You will all get the same stuff at some point later on.
Best Buy and Walmart paid for additional content to be made (just like Random House did for the book). But in the case of the retailers, it was agreed that all content that was made for them would be able to be given out to all players within 90 days.
Different retailers paid for additional quests to be made. They won't be available until AFTER the official release date.
In addition, those quests will be made available to all players at a later date.
there's your answer. Do your research before you post.
interesting...
Thats good enough for me! Thank you Frogboy! /
Appreciate the official word on this Frogboy
Why not just disclose this information beforehand?
I've already been charged for my digital preorder, I would have wanted additional quests.
Wow. When I saw the threads about Best Buy's exclusive stuff, I figured I'd been putting Stardock up on a pedestal as a paragon of virtue in the industry, and you were succumbing to more exploitative business philosophy.
I'm glad I was too quick in doubting you guys.
By all accounts, there's enough quests in the game that you should be fine for the 90 days you wait.
Thanks for the answer.
No "research" could have been done. This (the youtube video about broken street date) is AFAIK the first time we even heard of exclusive content for Elemental. (and since most people thought that "exclusive" meant "exlusive" many were dissapointed, not really surprising) Please correct me if Im wrong.
The post I quoted in my reply is in one of the locked best buy exclusive content threads.
can you tell us what the additional content is?
harpo
You will have to wait until after August 24th to find out.
You guys need to lurk moar!
In his defense, I find the search feature used for this forum to be really poor, it's pretty rare I can get the wording right to find what I want, and it takes a lot of patience to go through the amount of results it always seems to find no matter what I search. Although in this case bestbuy or best buy would probably work it's just not worth the hassle.
And you'll get them.
He said all players will get the content. It's not like you will not get them at all.
In my defense, the threads my quotes are from, are less than an hour old, and on the front page at the time of me posting them. Also, their names were very much related to the subject of this thread.
Thanks for explaining it. That seems fair.
This is a good thing. These companies paid for exclusive content, which means Stardock gets more money (right?). More money means more incentive for development on Elemental and beyond. What is the downside?
QUEST'Build one Walmart in one of your cities.''Go to the nearest wilderness Bestbuy and find six bargains.'The sadist in me hopes this is the case
This.
I'm all for Stardock getting some of Walmart and Best Buy's money, even if it means I have to wait a couple months for some minor quest which, frankly, will probably be nowhere near as interesting as the content modders will be creating.
Have to agree with this. If waiting a couple months for a few quests means stardock has more funds for elemental and future game development then I don't see anything wrong. We'll get the extra quests eventually and better yet, we'll have more content overall in the long run. At the end of the day Stardock is still looking out for its customers. Exclusive content has become part of the industry and from the sounds of it Brad and co. are trying their best to balance what they have to do to make some money with their dedication to their customers.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 1Yes. You will all get the same stuff at some point later on.Best Buy and Walmart paid for additional content to be made (just like Random House did for the book). But in the case of the retailers, it was agreed that all content that was made for them would be able to be given out to all players within 90 days.
I am not clear on something. The "retailers" agreed to make their "exclusive" content available to all within ~90 days. However, did Frogboy imply that there is special content available if you buy the book from Random House and only if you buy the book.
"Best Buy and Walmart paid for additional content to be made (just like Random House did for the book)"
You guys don't want to know what we gave up (financially) to be able to give out the bonus quests to all users after 90 days.
I'm sure it's worth it for what we users have collectively given up (financially) for this game.
I'm okay with 90 days, but prior knowledge about the bonuses would have been appreciated.
You are correct, we do NOT want to know or we'd be ashamed (and grateful!)
I believe the book is for another campaign (that's based on the book)
Exactly my point in another thread. Marketing and distribution deals are vital to the sometimes tenuous success of small (and large) software companies.
I liken exclusive bonuses to NFL stadium naming rights. No one really wants to play at "Gillette Stadium" but everyone wants to watch the game.
