Effects not showing. Help?

Hey, playing as Vasari here, and during battles, I am robbed of the satisfying hundreds of explosions that ensue. Has anyone encountered this problem before, and if so, what has been done to fix it? The effects stop completley during battles, except for a few shots and things such as platary lasers. A fix (for a few seconds) is to save and load the game. Thanks for your help!

How late in the game does this happen. The game has a limited amount of particle effects it can handle. Even though you might not be watching a battle at another planet, they are still loaded.

enum { MAX_NUM_PARTICLES = 6000 };

This should only happen late game with full fleets and multiple battles going on.

Or maybe your system or video card needs a boost. What are you running on?

And this happens late game when I'm doing 150+ vs 150+ battles.
