Zooming

I've had this game for quite some time, but only recently decided to upgrade to the two expansion-packs. 

Thus far I have been very frustrated with things, but I thought I had gotten past yelling at my computer when it was finally done downloading and the game was ready to play. I was wrong. 

 

When I start a new game, it zooms out as far as it can, and will not let me zoom in. I tried messing with the hotkeys to see if I could fix it, but I could not. Also, now when I hit esc, nothing happens. I have to manually click on the menu button. That irks me, but not as much as not being able to control the zoom. I assume there are many more bugs that I have yet to discover. 

 

So can anyone tell me what went wrong, and what I can do to fix it?

Afaik, Esc has never brought up the menu in Sins. Damned if I know why.

You can't zoom with a mouse wheel?

It has on my previous game, actually. 

 

And I'm on a laptop. In the past I've always gotkeyed the zoom in/out to the + and - keys, but that makes no difference. Nothing I do does...

It could be that your mouse is dying. My old mouse would only scroll down or zoom out, no matter which way I spun the wheel. And check the keymap for alternative ways to zoom.

And never assume that just because one game does things one way, all games of that type will follow the same format. I tend to memorize a new keyboard layout for every game.

First thing I do when installing a game is look at the hotkeys and if their are standard ones  set them like I have every other game. If not it's a good way to quickly see all the games capabilities.
