Game stays at black screen on startup

I'm running it on a laptop from 2008. Vista. AMD Turion 64 x2 TL52 processor and ATI Radeon X1200. 2 gigs of ram. The game used to work back in 2008. I just get a black screen when I start up that doesn't go away. There's no sound either while the black screen is on. I have to alt-tab and then I see a minidump popup. When I close it, the game crashes.

You either have a bad mod or bad base game. If you know its a mod, go to the mod directory and change the enabled mods text file to read 0 mods and delete the lines of mods. You might be able to just delete the file, I think the game generates a new one.

If there is no mods enabled you have modified the base game and should validate with impulse or reinstall and update.
