cannot load saves. not a patch issue

I have just purchaced and installed SINS the trinity edition. It loks good and plays fine but I cannot load any saves, including autosaves. It simply says this save is invalid. This is a fresh install, has not been patched. Does wnyone have any suggestions as to what is going wrong?
