Vasari Strategy Question - Jumping

How to establish fast transport

Hi all,

I just discovered this game a few months ago... (I know, shame on me).

I have recently started playing as the Vasari, and I cant figure out the fast transportation mechanic.  I thought the Vasari were able to create their own jump lanes, so that you can go from one gravity well to any other?  Is this true? If so, how do I do this?

I did notice that my cap ship had the Stabalize Phase Space ability - but it says that I need another exit portal somewhere else.  How do I create those? Are their buildings that do that?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have to research the phase stabalizer tech (I think its in the civic research tree, but I could be wrong) and then build a phase stabalizer node/phase gate (tactical structure). Then your ships can jump directly from any planet with a phase gate to another planet with one, provided they are in the same solar system.

Fantastic! Thanks guys.  These forums are definitely n00b friendly.

Now as a tactical question. Are there more than one ship that can create a mobile phase stabilizer? And does that allow all the ships in a grav well to jump out?

Thanks again,

Vas Starbase has a researchable upgrade, capital ship Antorak has it's ultimate ability, Kostura Cannon shells create a node, and of course the Phase Stabilizers themselves.

Phase Stabilizer Nodes work only for the empire that created them - not even their allies can use them, for better or for worse.

Particularly, if you execute a phase jump from one node to another node and your destination node is removed (either through the Phase Stabilizer generating it being destroyed or the duration for an ability expired), any ships that already started the jump will continue on. Other ships will have to use an alternate route unless you re-establish the node.

This ability seems pretty fantastic. Ultimately it means that I can supply a massive fleet in the field, or quickly retreat to defend a key system.  Is this totaly broken? Or am I missing something?

As long as it's a node. You can jump from any node you have to any other node you have.

Vasari is considered broken in the late-game, but for unrelated reasons.  Phase stabilizers are only a small part of their absolutely vicious arsenal of tools.  You can actually very quickly destroy the stabilizer with bombers, and so long as the enemy hasn't started their jump yet, this prevents them from arriving.  Unfortunately, the Vasari hanger can disable an indefinite number of strike craft for over a minute; its abilities like these that are the bigger problem that make it nearly impossible to approach a Vasari safely in the late-game.

Generally once Kosturas go up, Vasari wins.

Can trade ships use the phase stabilizers to lengthen the trade route past a neutral grav well?

Technically they do use them, but it doesn't count towards your trade chain, so it doesn't increase your income or allow you to skip neutral gravity wells. Need to build a starbase with the trade port upgrade for that.

Most of the time, phase stabilizers would shorten your longest trade route, so this is actually a benefit.
