Go to this site, click the "Get Impulse" button, install it on your computer. Run Impulse, create an account if needed (don't know if that is what you mean by registered), go to "My Games", click the "Register Product" button. Enter your serial number, select product category "Games", then the version of Sins of a Solar Empire you have. The game will be saved to your account. Then click it under "My Games" and there should be an "Update" button on the bottom right.
