Can the Iron Engine do these things? [ I need some information ]

Hi there people :D

I am looking if Sins can do things before i decide that i am going to do. So i am going to post some question with a image as example.

 

1: Can Sins Of A Solar Empire have these light rays [ for the Sun and for the ships engines ]?. Those blue beams.

2: Can ships explode into parts that drift away and then explode? [Like here]

I didn't check the videos, but from what I understand the Sins effects system is pretty versatile if you can master the particle forge. That covers everything but four. You can't make a star get physically smaller, but you could make a particle look like it was taking hydrogen or something from it. I don't know if there is an ability that explicitly targets stars but you might be able to make one. I don't know of anyone who has tried.

Stars are their own category, restricting an ability to them is a piece of cake.

 

AbilityResourceDrain is essentially exactly what he's looking for in 4, minus any actual detriment to the star itself.  Just stick it on a starbase and he's good to go.

If done right sins can simulate Haegemonia style particles using particle forge. I wouldnt know how to create them myself, but i am sure someone with talent in that department can whip something up.

Ship specific debris is possible (with any ship not just capitals) SoA 2 already did it, but the challenge was to keep the game from using more than its hardcoded 2 gig memory limit. So we abandoned that idea at least until the Diplomacy 1.2 patch is released. 1.2 is supposed to optimize the game better so it will open up more possibilities for modding.

Well great to hear :D,

I am currently trying to make an idea for a nexus style game where you need to use tactical desisions, and some homeworld flavor trough it, it this will mean that i need to code evertthing, what i dont know, but i also like sins, because sins already has a basis, only thing now would to add new effect / models / races.

 

What would you people choose?

make a sins mod or a complete game that is Free 2 Play

1. You can simulate light rays and lens flares by using particle systems, I've done this for several of my explosion effects. You CANNOT add light rays or flares to light "sources" like stars.

2. You can break ships apart in specific pieces, its only a question of modeling said pieces and attaching them to explosion effects.

3. You can modify jump particle effects, jump speed, warmup time etc. You cannot modify jump sequence animations, nor control the way ships are shaded when they jump.
