potential buyer question on single player

Hello

Having researched Sins.. I understand that it doesn't have a single plaer campaign, but does that mean I can only play via network or internet against other users?

Or can I still play as a single player but it just means it's open ended?

Don't really want to multiplay (certainly not for a while) but want to know what I'd be getting if I purchased.

Cheers all.

It has single player skirmish mode. There are 4 levels of AI (6 if you have Trinity) of various types (attacker, fortifier etc.). So no, in fact most of the people who have gotten Sins probably have only played single player.

Even though there is no campaign, you can play single player against the AI.  Probably more people do that than play multiplayer.  I only play single player against the AI and I love it.  Really good players get frustrated by the AI and tend to prefer multiplayer but I think its fine for most casual players.

Great game, IMO.

Currently 1v7 AI vicious locked is pretty hard and long. Anything less is just long.

I assume it's an 8 player FFA you're talking about, cause I would pay a trifle to see you beat 7 vicious AI's at once ;]

Yeah, as been said, you can play this game alone vs AI. The games can be made anything from half an hour long on the smallest 1v1 maps through 10 hours if you play the huge multistar random map with max number of AIs on a decent level and even up to 20 hours or more if you create an even bigger map (the huge multistar map is ~80 something planets, which I find lacking. I think coolest games are on 120-170 star maps with one big system and a few smaller ones; you can make such a map using the in-game generator).

Yup - I wish there was a campaign mode as well, but really enjoy SP.  Also a blast if you can play with friends, but I'd say there are pretty good odds you could have alot of fun in SP only.

Base game is fun. I played it for several months before playing online and finding out I didn't really know how to play the game.

Also... find some mods. Lots of good ones to try now and some in the works.

http://ricksgalaxy.homestead.com/links.html - personal favorite for links to active mods for sins of a solar empire.

http://www.moddb.com/games/sins-of-a-solar-empire/mods - Not quite as actively updated but good to visit.

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/forum/443 - Modding forums, requires a little hunting. The easier way is to get here through ricksgalaxy.

I would also love to see someone survive against 7 Vicious AI's all teamed up, what with their quintuple resource rate and mega build-time cheats.  By the 20 minute mark you should have ~600 ships attacking you at once.

On the flipside, if you start them at Easy, build up a defensive line, then save and load the game with them now set to Vicious... That would make for epic battles.

Sadly you cannot always rely on replays to showcase maps like that.  The replay desynchs and the outcomes change.  But it would make for great Youtube viewing.

I only play on Single player because I am Married and a Father who is a Trucker by Trade so that rules out any form of Multiplayer :(   for me.

I use to only play on the biggest maps with near max or max number of AI but now I usally play on smaller map sizes.

Do you work a local route or do you go over the road?  If it's the later, is it possible to play while you're resting at a truck stop that has wi-fi?  (Or do you simply not have any time to do anything other than rest at a truck stop since the dispatchers want your booty back on the road ASAP?)

I can create a replay but it wont help people many when playing pvp as the strategies defer greatly

But I would still like to see it. The lone player holding off a doomsday fleet that just doesn't stop. ^_^
