Will buying a used copy cause me problems?

I've been thinking about buying Sins for some time, and was ready to get Trinity when I heard that Rebellion is slated to come out at the end of the year. Since it's relatively close to release, it doesn't make much sense for me to pick up Trinity.

But I'd like to play some Sins. I can get a used copy of the vanilla game relatively cheap. So it makes sense for me to pick that up and play it until Rebellion comes out, then pick it up. But I have a few questions.

1) Is there any kind of registration process that will prevent me from playing with a used copy of the game? Once you register a copy, for instance, is the game "locked out" so others can't use it? Can I play with a used physical copy of the game?

2) I'm assuming the answer to this is no, but will having a used copy of vanilla Sins allow me to purchase Rebellion for $30? From what I've seen, it looks like the $10 discount for Rebellion applies only to those who have Trinity.

Thanks for any help!

You will be able to play single player, however serial keys are account-bound and generally cannot be reregistered. So you will not be able to get updates, play on ICO, or be eligible for any discount on Rebellion.

1. You can play the game but you cannot update it. What you get is what you get.

2. Applies only to Trinity or those that bought all the x-packs.

3. Recommend getting your own Trinity.

I think I might actually go ahead and pick up a used copy, understanding the limitations. I realize I won't be able to patch it or anything, but from the review that I've read the game was pretty stable out of the box.

Ryat - I would pick up Trinity if it wasn't for the immenent release of Rebellion. I just feel like I'd be wasting money. Trinity is about $35 (cheapest I've seen). So $35 + $40 for Rebellion - $10 for upgrading = $65. Or I can pick up vanilla for $10 + $40 for Rebellion = $50. Once Rebellion comes out, I can't really see why you'd play Trinity. Thanks for the info, though.

It is stable, though the balance and features of the game has grown over the patches, and that's just the base game, not the expansions. Mods and multiplayer also won't be avaliable, but if you don't want to be a total newb when Rebellion comes out yeah that will work.

Rebellion will have a beta phase if you pre order it that you will be able to play though. That said I'm not sure if they have specified a date for when that will come out. I guess this is a pretty bad time to make a wise choice on how to get Sins, we just don't know a lot of details yet.

I wouldn't say Rebellion is an imminent release.  The beta process hasn't even started yet, so it will still be a while before final release, although the pre-order is now open.

If it's like they did for the original Sins, and like Elemental and Demigod, there is and it's under NDA.
