I'm currently working on a mod. I was wondering, how do I configured frigates to be named? I've seen people do it in other mods.
Sorry if I'm brief and vague, so feel free to ask me WTH I'm talkin 'bout.

Seriously though... What do you mean by naming frigates? Is it just the build name associated with the frigate like Cobalt Light Frigate or Javalis LRM?
If you mean just renaming the frigate class name, that's a simple change to the string file. If you mean you want to name individual frigates names like the TDN Colossus... well that's an entirely different matter. I know of no mod that's done that, and as capitalships and starbases are the only entities that can have their own names, the best you could do is make all the frigates in the game capital ships but still mostly act like Frigates. That would be a lot of work though, and I say mostly because there are a couple things you can't change (like them costing a capital ship point) that would have to be worked around.
Ya, I was refering to naming each individual ship, not messing with the class name. Okay, thanks for the help anyway.
as far as i know there is only one mod that has figured out how to do what ur asking and that mod is New Dawn
Capital Ship names like "TDN Behemov" and "Merciless", can be re-named from the English.str file. If your trying to name frigates in this fashion, that cannot be done as far as I know. Unless you do as GoaFan77 suggested and make all the frigates in the game capital ships. If your looking to change the frigate's class name such as: Cobalt Light Frigate or Kodiak Heavy Cruiser, that is also done from the English.str file.
as far as i know this is not what the new dawn modders have done but rather give a random name to each ship snd they put it on the actual ship as well but im not sure they are able to change the name but it is an alternative to naming the ships
we have figured out how to put a name on each ship, but we haven't made the infocard name change. it is impossible.

EDIT:I just noticed that rhimed.
you only THINK you live in hell, WE aussies ACTUALLY HAVE hell (several pizza places AND at least one kitchen, and even hell's gate) and HOT christmases(30 -50 DEGREES c and we think that the 30 degree christmass' are only cool or maybe at most warm) that are usually burning in atleast one part of the country( which is as large OR LARGER than america))
