Recently Purchased Trinity Pack-Looking for some explanations.

Well hello all. Recently bought the trinity pack while it was on sale and have to say, I love the game and would have bought it if it were 50 dollars (Now Call of Duty...there's a game that's worth maybe 20 dollars...). Anyway, after two days of playing I already had downloaded the Requiem Starwars mod for Entrenchment, and that got me wondering, What exactly is the difference between Sins, Entrenchment, and Diplomancy? The all seem the same with some differences, and then there's Trinity itself. What is that? How is it different? At this point, I had just been jumping around the different games (I think? I dunno what they are) and hopefully would be able to load my saves in the right version. Not that big a deal, never went very far with most of my early games, except in Entrenchment when I played as the Empire.

So to start with, a little explination about the differences between the expansioons would be good.

Second, I'll go ahead to say that there are very few games that I own that I haven't modded. Sins took about three days. After some trollin' on teh internets I found a number of Sins mods, a lot of which seemed to be in a perpeual state of unfinishedness (or maybe its was just my lack of ability to navigate the ModDB site. Am I the only one who thinks its designed rather haphazardly?). Yet there are many videos of people using such mods, especially this one graphics one that looks really cool, with lots of lasers and junk like that (If I were in charge of creation, I would have started with lasers!) And really cool looking explotions. Vanilla Sins is fun and all, but dammit, if I'm going to explode, I want to go out in a huge bang.

So second, mods. List 'em if you know em'.

tl;dr New Guy here, just go through the motions.

Entrenchment adds mines, starbases, anti-structure cruisers, enhanced defensive stuff, etc.

Diplomacy revamps the mission, relationship, and pirate systems, adds the pact system and envoy cruisers.

Trinity is just Diplomacy rebranded to highlight that it's the game plus both the expansions.

The flashy effects mod you saw is probably Bailknight's. There were a couple, but Bailknight's is the most popular, and it has been incorporated into a bunch of other mods. It does have a thread on this forum somewhere.. the original creator (Bailknight) hasn't been around for a long time, so these days various people pick it up and update it for any patches if necessary. Volumetric Explosions is another good graphical mod.

Are you sure it wasn't mine? I just posted mine on Moddb.

Totaleffects Mod

My mod works with Trinity. Just download the diplomacy version.

Distant Stars is a fun one. It incorporates a lot of effects and expands upon the research with stronger Captial ships.

Get on to the Entrenchment expansion pack, then, and look into an ability called "Safety Override Protocol" for the TEC Argonev starbase.  If you're going to go out, may as well take everything in a 4000 kilometer radius with you.

If you're looking for mods, then bookmark this link: http://ricksgalaxy.homestead.com/links.html

It's a list of most, if not all of the more popular, currently being developed, or just plain bad ass mods out there for all three versions of Sins.

Also, if you're into modding, check out: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/356807

It's a set of tools made by Harpo that will help you out a lot.  Of course, there are other tools out there, but they're not in one convenient place for me to be able to keep track of.

And check out http://soase.weebly.com/index.html for lots of good information on modding in Sins.

Went ahead and tried this, but there are some scaling issues with some images. The portraits are fine, I never see much of them (not one for diplomacy). But the planet icons when zoomed out aall the way are scaled really weirdly, all squuished and stuff. Also, if I have a ship around a planet or celstrial object, when zoomed out, the icon isnt present, making it difficult to determine what kind of planet is being attacked (I would definetally have wanted to send my guys to defend a paradise world than an asteroid). Is there a way to fix this?

PM Stant123. This occasionally happens with our mod that is fixable but I can't recall it nor do I have the right stuff. Stant123 does.
