SHIT!!! THAT THING IS BIGGER THEN A PLANET!!!!

Was gunna say bigger than a starbase, but that works too.

Looks like this one is code-named "Athena".  Wonder if there will be an Ares

An Ares? I'm more worried about a ZUES!!!
End of CRZYnLAZY's quote

Zeus...  Star sized?  If they did incorporate it, they'd have to make it shoot lightning or I'd be disappointed...

It might have its own gravitational pull.  I wonder if it gets any logistics and tactical slots.

I suppose it has to be something that is build outside a gravity well. It's really enormous compared to the Kol, so I can't see how that would fit in a gravity well without ships constantly crashing into it.

TEC scouts got tired of scanning for mines, so they built the Athena because it could drive over them.  :P

Yeah. And it could become more powerful when it enters a Lightning Cloud for a short amount of time.

At lest spell Zeus properly.

I had it like that the first time but it didn't look right. I always get it confused. To know so much about Mythology and not know how to spell Zeus makes me feel ashamed. *cries in corner*

They have Kols for that, heck Akkans do the job just about as well.

So that's what the tactical value of the Kol is!

Its also the only time you'll ever use adaptive force field, since when clearing a friendly gravity well of mines, antimatter doesn't matter. ;)

I take pride in knowing that kind of information, it happens to the best of us, I don't know how many times I have misspelled Daedalus as Deadalus before correcting myself.

^ Now THIS is awesome news!

Due to larger ships being available (i.e. Titans), are there going to be any adjustments to the gravity well size or relative size of planets / mines etc? Also, what are the resource impacts (FPS etc) going to be due to these massive ships? I know the meshes for some of the Star Bases have a ridiculous number of tris, as do mines, etc. Will the meshes be optimized to .dds format to help reduce system load?

Just some questions.

No adjustments are planned like you mentioned.  FPS doesn't seem too affected yet, but time will tell. We're looking into various optimizations to the engine in order to deal with the bog down that happens over time as you play.  Not sure what will pan out yet as we've really just started looking in depth.

Thanks for the reply Yarlen! I know many of the things that the TSOP project started out to do was convert everything to .dds format as well as reduce the tri count on meshes such as mines, strike craft, extractors and the envoys (which have a HUGE number of tris) etc etc and it did help overall with a slight gain in performance. I know they also optimized a lot of the file search paths as well to reduce cycle times on the CPU which helped late game also. It might be something to look into if you get the chance.

If you guys could eliminate or significantly reduce the later-game bog down, that would be awesome.

I'm playing the super-secret, private-by-invitation-only alpha version and it's awesome.

If they do a good job, I'm going to release Yarlen's family unharmed when they are done.  I still don't know why they chose me to alpha test...it's just a mystery.
