Pirate Capship, Mobile factories?

Here's one I want to know about- think it's possible to make either a mobile factory or a pirate capital ship? I know there's an upgrade that applies the 'factory' setting to a TEC starbase but I don't know if it'd work on a ship

Yes you can make a pirate capitalship, and yes the TEC factory upgrade needs to be on a starbase (so it can't jump to a different planet) but in all other respects you can make a starbase act like a frigate or planetary structure.

Making a pirate capitalship is easy. Examine the Distant Stars mod (and other mods though I don't know if they are up to date) for examples. As for the mobile factory I think there are issues with the movement/shipyard that is hardcoded. I believe harpo99999 noticed this effect.

One thing you could try is getting in touch with the seven deadly sins guys. I think they had a race in their mod that was able to generate ships from their capital ships (The Arilou).

Making a mobile "factory" is impossible, it is however possible to make an ability to spawn a ship quite easily via an Ability ala the the Vasari Phase Gates, I believe there is another way to do it but I cant recall of the top of my head, both methods from what I do remember though revolve around abilities.

As Ryat mentioned its impossible to make a mobile factory due to the UI constraints which are hardcoded.

Starbases can be mobile, but putting a factory on them causes issues with dev.exe because move/stop and frig/cruiser are in the same position.  Never tried jumping a starbase to another planet... I think only frigates and capitalship entity types can use phase lanes.

The easy way to add a pirate capital is by way of editting the galaxyscenariodef file.
