No XP for rebellion?
Please confirm no Win Xp for rebellion. as per the new faq.
I hope that's not the case and that it will continue to run smoothly on computers that were able to run previous versions of the game, including Win XP 32 bit with a mere 2 GB of RAM. It really wouldn't make much sense to cut off numerous members of the fan base by increasing the requirements.
Increasing the requirements could also cause a problem for people who preordered but no longer meet the new higher requirements.
First, look at the minimum requirements for what it will take to run. They're not much different outside of needing a video card with Pixel Shader 3.0 support.
If you can run Diplomacy and have that, you'll be able to run Rebellion - albeit perhaps at lowering quality settings. The bump in processor speed is simply because there's more going on, but again, if you can run Diplomacy right now, you'll be able to run Rebellion with what you've got.
The game should run fine under Windows XP SP3, but we are currently not planning to officially support it.
The requirements may change once we get further along in development and see how much further we can optimize things.
Did it work on your XP rig? I dont plan on upgrading my game rig from XP. Runs everything else on the market.
I run diplomacy just fine. I'll give it a whirl.
I simply cant be bothered to upgrade windows on my game rig.
Rebellion WILL run on XP SP3. I have a dual boot win xp/win 7 system, and i run rebellion on both drives. So i can confirm that it works. However it may run a little slower than diplomacy depending on your rig.
Runs perfectly fine for me on Windows XP SP 3.
I just took a deep breath and bought the game. Lucky me, I can now confirm that the game works just fine on Windows XP Pro x64 Edition SP2 (NT 5.2 64-Bit kernel).
I guess official support on XP and XP x64 shouldn't be a problem, it works just as fine as the last installment.
Considering Windows XP 32 bit was the OS the Iron Engine was originally designed to run on there shouldn't be any problems. Back in '08 we were worried about it not being able to run on Vista, and Win 7 lol.
I've run on XP since release--no problem at all. I also run on Windows 7. Either is fine. XP is a teeny bit slower but you wouldn't notice unless you swapped between OS's.
Your worst case scenario is that by running XP you may have a very dated video card that eventually doesn't have completely compatible drivers for Rebellion.
"Not officially supported" is software developer's way of saying, "If you are running really old and out of date crap hardware our tech support ain't gonna fix that for ya".
