Sins of the Fallen: Fall of Kobol

A Battlestar Galactica mod for Sins of the Solar Empire

Release Date: TBD

All trademarks, logos, sounds, and video are the property of their respective owners. This fan based modification is strictly non-commercial and may not be used for any commercial purposes!

* This mod uses some assets from Sins of the 13th Tribe (credit will be listed in the readme when released).

Quick synopsis

This mod introduces the colonial and cylon factions to the Sins of the Fallen universe. Both races will be playable with any of the planets, addons, and races included in Sins of the Fallen including the stock races. Both the colonial and cylon's factions will be balanced against the stock factions to support this approach.

Colonial Fleet

Relying on heavily armored and armed ships the colonial fleet is always on the defense looking for cylon incursions. Lacking shields of any kind Battlestar Point Defense systems are used to intercept incoming weapons and minimize damage to nearby frigates and cruisers supporting the fleet.

Trust me, the last Diplomacy release of B&C is even better than 13th Tribe.

Also, Z, don't know how much help i'll be, but i'll take some SVN access for the two (ish... sigh) months i'm still here if you'd like. I remember using it before for SoGE, but that was so long ago i forget how to use the darn thing.

To use some modified copy/paste from SoGE's guide:

1) Please download and install TortoiseSVN
2) Next, navigate to your Mods-Rebellion v1.0XX folder (located in ...Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion)
3) Right-click the folder and select "SVN Checkout" (NOTE: You will need to repeat this Y times in order to add in all the folders of the mod)
4) Set URL of repository:
svn://urlhere.com/folder/subfolder
and the checkout directory name
Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.0XX\MOD NAME
5) Click Ok and let it download. (If the folder is very large:) It is known that at times the download will abort while downloading. If this occurs, run SVN Checkout again, and do not delete the folder you already have, overwrite it instead.
6) You should now have a full directory with a green checkmark
7) To update: Just right-click the folders and select "SVN Update".

I am away from a real computer until Sunday night... I'll shoot details out then hopefully. And I'm at the point for colonials where I need specific feedback to finish them up. So even if you can only throw out a couple ideas or say something just doesn't feel right that will help. I have some specific areas I'm curious what you think. I will write some of those up next week. I can still shuffle techs around some if needed for balance or modify some research modifiers around to at this stage. I also need some ideas for loyalist vs rebel techs outside of Corvette and titans. This could come from classifying existing techs or adding a few new ones. Don't worry too much about the extra declare faction stuff right now. It's more play fluff atm.

Thanks lavo. I use eclipse's SVN plugin and hadn't had a chance to look into other standalone clients yet.

Here's some specific items I'd like feedback on (Colonials only)...

Economic pacing for early game Colonials (i.e. focusing on non-combat labs/research versus combat)

  • I've done well with a focus on cheap mines then building a refinery network
  • Trade at tier 3 puts more emphasis on mines, refinery and early tax upgrades
  • Population growth upgrades at low tiers keep the cost low but really aren't great until you have a high pop planet to colonize.

Combat pacing for early game Colonials (i.e. focusing on combat labs/research versus non-combat)

  • Ships are expensive but durable. Hard to deal with vanilla factions that can outspam you. Armor/Hull Research might not be currently enough to offset overall lower mitigation.

Research Feedback?

Research String Descriptions?

Ability suggestions - Open to suggestions that fit with the current ability names and icons. I don't want to create new assets but tweaking the underlying code is acceptable.

  • Titans abilities are vanilla templates right now and need some oomph.
  • Capital ability balance/tweaks

Balance:

Personally I feel early game battlestars are too strong especially when evidenced against this comparison spreadsheet.

Frigates are actually fairly close per supply. Basically while less in numbers they stack up fairly well to other factions. The delimiting factor right now is mitigation which may need some more tweaking to balance things out.

That is the Cetus class Titanstar.

Oh ya the Cetus. I don't like it so that's probably why I didn't recognize it.

Hi there, I would like to make some adjustments to the mod for my play style - but I can't seem to convert the binary .entity files. Is there any way I could get the text files from you? I have no inclination to publish any changes I would just like to play around with balancing.

Thanks! Will get that now. Other question, if I use the mesh resize tool on any mesh I get a minidump - is there any way around this? Need a bigger BSG :D

what dumps? the resize tool? the game?

And a word of warning bigger meshes behave poorly in sins making the bumper care affect even worse.
