The Vasari's Ancient Enemy

The Vasari's Ancient Enemy

So as we all know from the Lore the Vasari are on the run and have been for years it takes a generation for them to catch up to the Vasari. Now with the new lore coming out we know that the Vasari are running out of time and the enemy will arrive soon. Also with the Schism in race factions the Rebel Vasari they don't want to unite and hold they want to unite and run with the rest of the races.

Instead of speculating on what the race/entity is doesn't this sound like its an opener for the Campaign maybe not in the Rebellion expansion. But after it, if this race is supposed to be so powerful wouldn't releasing something of that volume make it overpowered? Now I know some people are against a campaign and I won't hold that against them but I would love to see advancement in lore and to finally face the Vasari's enemy!

As a small P.S: is their anything else we know about their enemy other than what is stated in the lore?

I would love to see a campaign one day. To be honest though, I'm notorious in strategy games for jumping into skirmishes and avoiding campaign mode, so Trinity appeals to me. However, I do enjoy a good campaign and getting immersed in the story. I especially like it when there are good actors in the game that talk to you (e.g., Wing Commander: Prophecy).

When I look at a game, I measure the story, the graphics and game play (look and feel), the music, and the sound. When I played Trinity, I personally found all of these to be EXCELLENT. I believe that the absence of a campaign allowed them to focus on each of those areas so I'm really glad they put all of their resources into making a good game. Rebellion will expand on that excellence. With that being said, I too hope for a campaign one day because I would love to see their excellence on video cut scenes, briefings, and debriefings. Perhaps in Sins of a Solar Empire 2 (if they make one).

As long as there is always a skirmish mode available for those who want to just jump in and build an empire like we can now because I may enjoy a good campaign, but there are many days when I just want to build an empire.

As long as there are fans who will pay money for the product, then I think we will get SINS 2.

There should be something on the new Gal Forge that allows you to create something near to a campaign for Sins.  I will make a campaign series featuring the Darkness, or the Vasari ancient enemy, as the main enemy, once the new, Rebellion Galaxy Forge comes out.

You won't find a campaign that invloves role-playing, with people that talk to you.  If I remember, the Devs said there would be no campaign for Sins, period.  Most likely, there will never be a SOASE II.

Also, I see a reason that Ironclad and Stardock have not come up with a campaign yet.  Some people just rate games on their campaign.  I don't think Ironclad and Stardock want Sins to be rated biased off the campaign.

Heck, I'm not trying to offend the devs, but if they came up with the worst campaign in the history of all creation, and got their game rated based off that, you think many games would sell?  No.  Most likely, absolutely not.

If Original Sins of a Solar Empire had gotten rated based off the campaign, had they included one, would there be an Entrenchment, Diplomacy, and, within the year, Rebellion?  No, Sins would have been shelved as a failure, a dud, a piece of junk., which it isn't.

So let the devs do what they want to do, make a very, very, very cool space game, and make your own campaign, or download a campaing that someone else has made.  Personally, I wish I could make the HUD dissappear sometimes, just to view Sins in all its coolness, like a movie.

For example,  Battleships Forever.  BSF is something like Gratuitous Space Battles.  It has a campaign much like sins is now, with only skirmishes, intermixed with briefings and debriefs after the mission.  In that respect, minus maybe the fact that you get subspace radio reports, there is no visible campaign, except that the different maps follow the pattern of a campaign.  Personally, I like the game 1.) because it allows you to easily blow stuff up, and quickly, and 2.) you can create a ship within an hour, unless you spend time making the moving sections, and are particular with how each weapon operates.  I don't care about the campaign for BSf, and I only play it so I can blow stuff up.

In summary,  most likely, you will never find a campaign, unless it accompanies a mod.  Even then, It won't be a good campaign for just the three races in Sins, because there is no principle "baddie", except the Pirates, who are only a sometimes major nusiance.  There would have to be a baddie, or villian, for you to have to destroy, to make any campaign, or raid, in some online games.  There could only be one principle "baddie" that the Devs could make without making major overhaul to the lore, and that would be the Vasari ancient enemy, The Darkness.

I think that's all I'm going to say right now, so, have a nice day.

Yarlen,

Don't ban me.  I went on a rant because it's starting to annoy me that people keep asking if there will be a campaign in Rebellion, so, yeah.  It annoys more than a few others on this forum, as well.

I'm okay either way. Like I said, I tend to be the type who wants to just get in and start building my empire (no campaign), but I enjoy playing campaigns as well. There is something to be said about a campaign - particularly for fans who have a lot of heart in lore. I personally believe that the quality of Sins is such that they could make a great campaign one day. I wouldn't worry about them making a flop. These guys are too good.

However, I'm in no rush - right now, I think it's important that they keep doing what they're doing. In the future, if they decide to create a campaign, I know it will be great. Their excellence in every aspect of the current game has demonstrated awesome talent.

I roleplay my own empire, but it would be nice to have a miniature campaign as a tutorial while providing more lore for the universe per race.

Good news for those wanting a campaign. According to the Q/A thread, a campaign is planned for the future (not Rebellion, but for a future series). :)

From: Brandon Rogers
Question: Will there ever be a campaign?

Answer: Yes, just not in the Sins 1 series. ;) We are looking to add some more interesting scenarios in Rebellion, however.

I made the Q/A thread;P

:P Yeah, I had to edit my reply, changing it from: "Good news, MayallCommunion" to something more general once I realized you were the one who posted that. Not only does this suggest a campaign one day, but a Sins 2 if I'm reading it correctly. That made my day.

And mine.

EVERYBODY HAPPY!

The enemy is probably from another dimension or something like that, at least thats how i interpreted the sins intro movie. Some vasari experimental teleport lab flicks a switch, blows up, then you see a kortul on the run followed by what looks like a diagram of the vasari moving from planet to planet with each planet falling dark as the unknown enemy arrives a short time after the vasari remnants leave, indicated by the planet turning red in the diagram.

Its defiantly something to do with that teleportation lab.

From the lore i doubt they could fight whatever it is, they lost their entire empire and haven't gotten a single piece of intel on what they actually lost it to. They would need the TEC and Advent to help at least figure out what the heck is chasing them.

Well the Vasari rebels want to take the other races along with them to stand a better chance.

I guess that we'll finally verify in Sins 2 that the Vasari are fleeing from Chuck Norris...  :ninja:

Sort of a Trinity alliance thing?

I've been on this forum about half a year, and within the past few months I've seen three different threads about the Vasari Ancient Enemy.  This is why I'm creating a mod based off it, called the Darkness mod.  Sorry, but this just really annoys me.  There is an official thread for the Darkness mod, which can be found here:

how about some proof behind these 'scenarios' starclad is cooking up so we might want to spend our money on Rebellion.  I personally, being so F* off with Diplomacy, won't get Rebellion unless it shows some decent features aside from a new Titan that seems just like a capitalship with BBQ-licious firepower.

Impress us.

Yeah, it is a problem.

An issue is that with a game as moddable as Sins, individuals can easily create mods (for free) with just as much creative content as a pay-for expansion.

However, the way the devs have had things though, there are relatively few online players so they have to stick together to play competitively, which is why large migrations to mods doesn't happen.

The Vasari are the most formidable fighters in the game. If we have to fight the Ancient Enemy, I am SO playing it, but my main concern is the dynamics. The Vasari aren't made to be allies with anyone, but they may have to team up to fight them. Also, anyone who has watched the cutscenes in the games can learn about what has happened. What was said about a campaign is something I've hoped for for a while, but I am worried. If an individualiazed campaign is made, it may just kill the game for me. I'll wait and see.

Sins doesn't have a campaign, nor will it have one for this...
