Discussing Sins of a Solar Empire with Friends

I needed to vent because it really bothers me that many of my friends refuse to try out Sins of a Solar Empire. Lately, I've been voicing a lot of praise and protracted accounts of game play, but driving friends and counterparts at work, friends outside of work, and even my girlfriend crazy. I'm sorry, but for several reasons, I really love this game. I admit, too much of anything can be unhealthy, so I'm toning it down (even with my friends that also play Sins).

As I said in another topic, when I look at a game, I measure the story, graphics, game play, music, and sound. When I played Trinity, I personally found all of these to be EXCELLENT. Ironclad Games clearly focused on each of those elements, putting all of their resources into making a great game. Rebellion will expand on that excellence.

It's just frustrating that many people are unwilling to try it or aren't into the genre. I don't think less of them, but I really wish they had a change of heart. Many of them can be heard talking about another game, sharing tales of adventure, discussing unit strengths and weaknesses, and describing strategies. I would love to hear that conversation, but over Sins of a Solar Empire. It's a powerful game, not to mention the mods that add even more value, and I wish they were into it.

I'm trying to tone it down and limit my mention of Sins to the few friends who actually play it. I also have this forum for that and it has been a good experience so far. I'm not incensed over it, but it does bug me sometimes. Thanks for letting me rant.

Well if you're friends aren't into strategy games period, well you shouldn't be surprised. But if they are, well that's kind of surprising, most people I've shown the game too have been pretty impressed. I guess some people are just too convinced Starcraft II is the best game ever.

Further, I advise that the Devs add custom map sharing to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

Describing something as complicated as Sins in detail to someone who doesn't know the game could easily be more confusing than enticing... :(

But if you find people who like numbers and strategy they're probably your best bet for recruitment into Sins. Some people'll be interested, some won't...

Sounding obsessed could be a minus. If I were you I wouldn't "limit my mention" of the game, but would restrict myself to broad overviews of it instead of in-depth descriptions of strategy and stuff.

One of my buddies will hopefully stop by after work one of these days so I can show him. Seeing is believing sometimes, but sadly, he's already voiced his plan to purchase a Mac (since his current PC is shot), so he won't be able to play Sins unless there is a Mac version I don't know about. I still want to show him though because I think he'll appreciate the detail and music given his background.

That's a really good idea. I tend to be very wordy and colorful with a long drawn out explanation of everything that I like about the game. So my delivery definitely needs some fine tuning.
