Hi every body,

Sorry for my poor english.

On impulse i bought SOSAE one year ago , and now i just bought SOSAE trinity, and the thing i don't understand is that on i can't choose the language, on basic SOSAE when you ask download on impulse, you can choose it.

How could i translate this game in french? Is this possible?

The good news, if Trinity's install is identical to having the three expansions separately, there be a file of great interest to you.  In the install directory, in the Diplomacy folder, there will be a String folder.  In mine, I have English.str and French.str, a simple renaming of French.str to English.str would accomplish what you're after.

The bad news, I don't know if Trinity's install is identical, so perhaps you don't have them?  There isn't a French.str in vanilla or Entrenchment either, so...

It is identical.

You could always learn more English.  Treat this as a learning experience.  Never know how often you'll need Vasari and Advent in common day speech. :digichet:

For Trinity, localization only exist with boxed european version...

Once you patch ( update ) trinity, you end up with English/French ( or English/German ) mixed game... As for localized update, Kalypso put the responsability on Stardock :

Well, these Kalypso quote are from 2009 and no news since...

There is somehow a work around... seek in your old SOASE version the file "French_Movie_Sound.exe" and save it somewhere... install Trinity, copy the "French_Movie_Sound.exe" in the "/Program Files (x86)/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire" and run it... Video will be replaced by French version and sound will be partially replaced by French version...

Not perfect... all news sound from Entrenchment and Diplomacy will remain in english... crew from the Kol will speak French but crew from the Orgrov will be English...

Now, about the .str, there is a other problem... you can find french translation for sins, ent and dip at http://transgalactique.free.fr/telesins.html ... problem is that with Impulse, you cannot choice the version that you wish upgrade... it is always upgrade to the last version...

German version are a little more updated :

- sins 1.14 : https://www.sinsofasolarempire.de/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,93/func,fileinfo/id,38/

- ent 1.08 : https://www.sinsofasolarempire.de/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,93/func,fileinfo/id,39/

- dip 1.31 : https://www.sinsofasolarempire.de/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,93/func,fileinfo/id,44/

Since yesterday, dip is at 1.33 ... so, it is very possible that your version buy on Impulse is already 1.33 ... and you will not find ( yet ) any fan made European localization on the internet...

PS : Mon premier language est le francais ( deuxieme est dutch, troisieme est English )... si tu ne comprend pas ma reponse, tu peut m'envoyer un PM en Francais...

Funny since the majority of native English speakers know only English... on the other hand, it is not rare for non native english speaker to be able to use 2-3-4 or more language... the language with the most native speaker is Mandarin, followed by spanish, English taking only the third position ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers ) ... if you wish sell your game worldwide ( and make a lot more money ), it is best to have some localization file...

I went through and Google Translated a bunch of stuff up to 1.33. Let me see if that made it into the GameStop update.

True, but I don't see this game in any of those languages (I'm only aware of a french version).  Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, I don't know.  Either way put, the traditional "international" version of games default to english.

So the Diplomacy French.str and German.str appear to be good from what I can tell (meaning the game doesn't mini-dump if you load them). Whether the text makes any sense or not I can't tell as I don't read either language.

Thank you... not really Stardock job since customer have almost pay double price to Kalipso for these service... pity that online translation are far from perfect...

There is maybe a way to avoid similar problem with Rebellion... maybe form a mod group for localization... these mod group will receive the english.str for Rebellion at a early stage and begin translation... so, when the Rebellion will be released, there will be localization made by the communauty who can be included in the release...

For video and sound, it will be very difficult since good voice actor are rare...

Seem a crazy idea but it work with opensource software and i don't see why it cannot work with commercial software, specially when sins have a great modders community...

I can help for the French version, i can maybe contact again Freecry from the transgallactique forum since he is one of the guy who have work with Kalipso for the release of the original sins in 2008...

Will be great to have people for a Spanish version... after all, Spanish is almost the second language from the US, and the main language from Spain, and a lot of south-central America country...

Well, from your Dip 1.33 post, it seem that some change was introduce in the english.str ... Mini-dump with near translated version are rare but not the famous "string not found"...

But these somehow older version ( but newer that version on the original Trinity DVD ) can be used like reference for create a full updated version... will have more work for find the few line who have change that make the translation itself...

Do you mean myfist0's post? I hadn't had a chance to go through it yet.

There are some things indeed cause mini-dumps from the string file such as missing required enumeration entries.

Well, I figured out how to script conversion of all my mod's string entries to German or French :P

~ 4,000 entries converted to German today... I'll do French after I confirm the German stuff all works good.

Yes... mixed you and him...

As for automated/online/etc translating, it is enough good for a word by word translating... the problem is more related to a good grammar... a good example is my own English :p :p :p ... i know the words ( not all of them ) but i have no idea about good English grammar... seem that people understand me here but quality is not high enough for a software localization... i can make a good "English to French" but not a "French to English"...

Well, it seem that Ijatsu will be able to play sins in French.... by using your mods

Many thanks

Update to dip 1.33 via Impulse... pray your God Yarlen... once you start diplomacy, text will be in French... if not, delete the english.str in "/Program Files (x86)/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire/Diplomacy/String" and rename the "french.str" to "english.str"...

For video and sound, if you have keep the files from your original sins :

Well... maybe correct. However, given it was very unlikely this would have occurred without the automated translation I feel it is an acceptable compromise.

Also, I considered it an interesting challenge to solve as well... so win-win.

Can I have German and French originals done? I will include with reference files. Not sure if I can just backport the FRench.str to Ent or Org. Probaly works but includes content not paid for.

I can include a ReadMe in the String folder with instruction and maybe Thoumsin can write me other language instructions

And/Or I can put the files on the weebly with instructions

Well, since it is only a string file, i will not worry too much... it will includes description of the "content not paid for", not the content itself...
