Steam vs. Uploading User-Created Mods

Hey,

 

I'm new to the forums, and believe it or not, in the three years I've played SINS I had no idea there were mods.

Anyways....

 

I decided to get a newer-better version of the game, so I went out and looked and saw that Steam offered a discount, so I took it. Anyways long-story short, for some reason whenever I attempt to load a mod or use a galaxy I created(galaxy-forge), it will never appear in game.

I looked around on Youtube for a bit, and even Googled it to find out if there was a solution. Unfortunetly, no. 

 

I need some help, or advice. :/

 

 

[Other important miscellaneous information:

 - Tried saving to various .galaxy folders(for my user-created galaxies)

 - WinRAR Extraction to the specific folders for effects]

 

Note: I didn't know if this belonged in Modding or Technical, sorry!

This will help a lot with mods. As far as I know Steam just allows you to buy and download the game. After that the file system remains the same.

Probably with modding. I would guess you are probably putting it in the wrong folder (For trinity it does not go in the same place as the other maps). Custom maps need to go in a Galaxy Forge folder that is in the same location as the mod folders, which you can find with the link Ryat gave.

As for your map problem, open them with notepad and check that at the begin, you have :

TXT
versionNumber 3

With today version of sins, map need to be made with forgetools III... map made with the original tools will not work...

For mod, be sure to have a mod made for your version too... as i wrote this post, there is already some mod who have updated to the last patch, diplomacy 1.34 ...

cdu777, if you want to use old maps in the current sins/entrenchment/diplomacy/trinity then the maps NEED to be in the user space galaxyforge folder, and the use my map updater to update the map to mapversion 3 WITH all the structure changes that happened in the map format eg the changes from map0 to map1 was one added line near the start, from map1 to map2 was another line added near the start, but map2 to map 3 added FIVE new lines and five changed lines for EACH planet AND player/militia.
