disappointing

stardock, i have to say i love sins, it is one of my all time favorite rts games, and i have played for a long time, to the point where i got my mates to a get a copy.

 

however a problem occured where i couldnt download or update through impulse/gamestop.  so i emailed gamestop and followed all their instructions, they contacted their specialist who couldnt figure it out and they contacted stardock,

 

i also emailled star dock several times, twice i got my emails through, 2 others because the email had forwarded data in them were marked as being spam and returned.

 

i trolled the net for solutions including trying to find the http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com to download them and hopefully play.

 

but alas to no avail.  again impulse were fast to respond and excellent in their assistance, stardock you have let me down.  should you wish to contact me about this please do and i will be happy to try and get this working with your assistance.

Take the CD key you got the game(s) with, register it on Impulse (now called Gamestop), and you should be able to update your game... that's the general idea, if you're having problems, tech support can try to help you, but if you say what the problem is here on the forum we might be able to help you. But SD support, while sometimes slow, is probably your best bet.

If you describe the actual issue you're having we might be able to offer suggestions, but generally speaking any issues with Impulse downloads or updates need to be dealt with by GameStop support. We don't have control over it any longer since they own it now.

ok, basically the problem is that i am unable to download the game through gamesport,   i put up about this before and was told to contact gamespot/impulse which i did.

 

basically i started out not being able to download the updates which i needed to play my mate, but it wouldnt work.  so after several goes, i uninstalled the game and then uninstalled gamespot, reinstalled, and then it would let me download.

 

not when i say that it, would say preparing, and then after a spell would say error, and it has stayed that way.

 

i put this up before here and was told to contact gamespot.  they told me to reset the account data which i did and then when it updated and downloaded, it still didnt work.

 

next i ran a programme of theirs to give them data on what the programme was/was not doing, and apparently it came back ok, which led to it being passed to their specialists.  and they all said it was a stardock problem,  they contacted startdock and i heard nothing.  impulse had said they were getting alot of complaints about similar issues but nothing else on the subject and i didnt ask as im sure its confidential.

 

currently it is still saying error and i cant figure out why, all my games were registered before and indeed entrenchment and diplo were bought through stardock/impulse if i remember right all my serial numbers are accurate,

 

and i reinstalled the original off my cd but cant update it.  ideas folks?

What exactly does the error say? That's the key to solving your problem.

My initial completely wild guess would be a lack of space on your hard drive, but that's probably wrong, especially given the side of them nowadays.

Since you're able to attempt a download, it sounds like your Gamestop (not Gamesport) account is fine, and the game is successfully registered - but there's something interfering with the download or file creation process. Maybe turn off Peerblock if you have it, related programs, and your firewall. If that doesn't solve it, a virus scan couldn't hurt either.

hey dude, the error says just that error, nothing more, cant figure out how to get round it,

using f secure and it isnt a problem cause it allowed all the files to be downloaded the first time around which was within the last couple of months (had done a reinstall and clean up recently)

 

space is good too, well over 120gb, dont have peerblock whatever it is,

The original release preceded the release of Impulse, so it may not have all the proper registry entries to be automatically recognized. If that's the case you can use the Detect Application option in Impulse's menu to add it and try updating it.

If it is failing during the update process without any useful feedback though, that is most likely an issue that GameStop support will need to address.

 

That being said, we're currently working on getting our games up for download on our own store website (currently only Sins Trinity and GC2 ultimate are up there), so once we get vanilla Sins and the individual expansions set up there you won't need to use Impulse at all.

My error says: The serial number you have entered is not recognized by Impulse. Only serial numbers provided by Stardock will be accepted.

I'm just trying to update my game.

Before impulse turned to the dark side (GameStop), I could update my game without any problems.

 

Are they trying to scam me into buying a new copy from them? I always felt they were wallet thieves ever since the first time I traded in games. They trade my game for $3 and sell them for $20 on shelf.  :borg:

take a look at https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/413445 ... screenshot in the opening post... bet that you have something similar...

My original sins was a boxed version from Kalipso... once i have update the Impulse client from Stardock to Gamestop, problem have begin to happen... maybe because it was a serial from Kalipso and not directly from Stardock... register again the original game can solve the problem... if not, it is very possible that the original game was register on a other account too... don't remember the url but stardock staff have post a link to a page who allow to merge account... usefull link if you have multiple account...

Boys, when you have problem... post screenshot and full detail...

Will be great if Stardock or a team of trusted forum members use teamviewer for solve sins problem... it allow one computer to take control of a other one... i use it a lot, for remote "repair" computer from other people, no need to move my a$$ from my chair at home...

the error says 'error:error retrieving data'

 

have tried removing the game but even then it wont allow a fresh install and download. 

 

kryo, impulse have said its not their end but stardocks and that stardock havent been engaging them, only saying this cause thats what i have in my email. 

 

also im the only owner so dont see how my serials could have been used elsewhere.  i really want this to work and am open to any ideas.

I can't speak to the error that Impulse is throwing. If it's an error coming from Impulse, that's not something Stardock can help with anymore. FWIW, I've looked at your account information and it all seems cool. As you have Sins, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy, I have added a Sins - Trinity registration to your Stardock account. You can redownload the whole bundle from the My Downloads link on https://store.stardock.com.

Thoumsin: Teamviewer or other related options can be impractical from a legal perspective.

Well, my trust in Stardock have again increase today... was very friendly to give a trinity registration for help a guy who have problem with Impulse from Gamestop...

Way to be appreciative. When was the last time someone said, "Hey, I lost my reg--can you replace it?"...and a company did?

Now I have to go tell Adobe and Autodesk that I lost my serials for the latest full versions of Creative Suite and 3DS Max and it will indeed be a happy new year. :ninja:

 Just imagine all the people that don't browse these forums. They can't update the game cause of some shitty update service. If stardock can give a replacement to one guy, they might as well give it to all the accounts that were registered, if they still have the data....

 

I know I registered the game with the same email that I used with these forums, and when I registered with Impulse one year ago. I even re installed the game to try and fix the problem, but it still gives my an error when I try to update. Entering my serial number doesn't work, it tells me that "only serial numbers by stardock are accepted."

 

Now im stuck with 1.0.
