Command And Conquer: Generals 2 Annouced

Well EA games and BioWare just annouced Generals 2 for C&C.

http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/blogs/blog/159

It's gonna run on the Frostbite 2 Engine like Battlefield 3

As much as I am excited for this game I worry about modding and making maps for this. Heard DICE is gonna make modding tools for their engine since the frostbite engine is too complicated to mod without them.

Goods news. I was wondering when this would happen. They always had the best Air AI for any RTS I have played.

Saw the vid for this - very exciting.  Looks great!

Excellent, the original was actually my favorite C&C game (back when a modern warfare game was still unique ;) ). Seems like they're largely keeping it to the same universe as the tanks and flak cannons are mostly the same. And its probably a good thing they got rid of their old C&C team after 4, though Bioware is an odd choice, have they made an RTS before? Should be interesting either way.

Its not really BioWare.  EA just renames all their old game studios to BioWare X to take advantage of the BioWare brand name.  For example, Mythic Studios is now BioWare Mythic, despite not having anything to do with the original BioWare.

This studio was called Victory Games until today, when EA renamed it:

Its shady and dilutes the BioWare brand name, but BW knew what they were getting into when they signed up with EA.

Damn, I had no idea they were doing that. Pretty shitty.

It'll be interesting to see whether the game stays close to the original's formula (C&C does StarCraft), if it moves closer to some of the other games in the series, or if it's something else entirely.

I think people don't want a Starcraft copy nor do they want to screw up like they did the C&C Tiberium 4.

I too look forward to this spiritual sequel to Baldur's Gate from the makers of Mass Effect. Seriously, why in the nine hells did they rename what was left of EA LA to Victory Games, only to then rename it again to Bioware? Is Electronic Arts going to Atari itself with Bioware? Wait... someone posted a Dilbert comic on this forum about that recently.

Don't forget, it was originally Westwood Studios (The creators of Command & Conquer) before EA bought them out and changed it to EA LA.

I think they noticed that rebranding Westwood as an EA studio backfired, so now they're doing it the other way around.

so name change, but same old mmo style always connected, etc, as per growing trend?

One of the long list of buy outs by EA, they killed Pandemic Studios and Maxis the same way.

Yes and then most of WS people left EA. For instance Dustin Browder went to Blizzard and became the main designer for Sc2 :( :(

And he gave us such "glorious" units like Colossus and Marauder and Roach.... at least he will not be around to fuck up Generals 2 as well.

I have high hopes for Generals 2 as Generals 1 was the most fun C&C game I played (well C&C 1 Gold edition was a blast as well but only because you could abuse that game like crazy; like tanks having bigger range if you attacked from the bottom or having a critical mass of Orcas would make you unstopable or engineer+APC base takeover tactics)

For sure, not an exact copy of Starcraft, but I thought it was the abandonment of traditional C&C elements that made Generals the game that it was.

True, atleast if you ask GameReplays.

The classic C&C mechanics are old and outdated and nothing people want back (except the "TRUE C&C!!!" people....)

Myself I hope for the best for this one as C&C Generals was the best C&C I've played.

Heh. I was actually thinking about a post on that site complaining about fans complaining about the lack of paygo.

Paygo = Pay as you go?

That was a bad mechanic and competetive players disliked it since you could "hold" a defensive turret in the ready and place it whenever you wanted and if you don't need it to protect your teching/ecobooming..?   Cancel and get all the money back and build something else instead....

Graphics = win. What remains to be seen is  if the game-play is competitive for tournaments.

However having to wait 2 years for its release is irksome

I was skeptical the moment I heard about it. I've heard bad things, I've seen bad things, and I know bad things.

I think I'll stick to Shockwave and pray Rise of the Reds gets an update. That's my Generals 2, as far as I'm concerned.
