You know a lot of definitions... what actually is a minx, other than a slang term. I think it's some kind of wild cat, but I might just be confusing a number of similarly-named animals...
It is indeed a wild feline.
meow pffffffft*
Minx is a (mostly early) 20th century slang term for saucy young ladies, similar to vixen.
Except that it is either a misspelling of the name of Manx cats, which oddly enough are not a very saucy breed of cat, or an old spelling of mink.
So it's completely in a vacuum... weird.
Anyway, back to insulting MortalKhrist!
No, we should take a break to insult you for this vacuum bidness. And for assuming everyone's trying to insult MK. I have no idea what's going on amongst you kids and am just doing a typing version of throwing monkey wrenches in the works.
And now I really wish I still had my compact Oxford English Dictionary. Whatever crappy free dictionary PoSmedley found claims a first known use, but doesn't show it. The OED is such an uber-nerd thing--it has usage examples from across the whole known history of words.
I have no idea what is going on anymore ... wow.
And here is Oxfords definition ~
minx Pronunciation: /mɪŋks/ noun humorous or derogatory an
impudent, cunning, or boldly flirtatious girl or young woman: you saucy little minx!
mid 16th century (denoting a pet dog): of unknown origin
or Dictionary.com
Ok. Yet more proof that that "Whiskey" person is full of... well, whiskey. (I'm gonna get in trouble for that one....)
And I don't think minx even really applies to Mortal- by my high school's standards (the only standards I know) she is far from flirtatious, by no means impudent, and let's be honest here compared to me not all that cunning.
Hmm. m-w.com counts as a crappy online dictionary to me, and I'm not used to any online version of the OED and would be sad to see it abandoning its roots as the glorious project of the professor and the madman. I'd expect to see a usage example associated with an origin date, or at least some notes about why that's the origin date even though there is no usage example.
I don't know about you, but I'm being a gleeful threadjacker because this thread was very annoying when it started and then got tweaked by the OP into some weird response to a 'newbie' in Stardockia.
Plus, I'm smitten with PoSmedley's new old-fashioned mustache.
You're just saying that because you know I want to steal your avatar.
That's why I follow her...
Need...more...pie.
Actually I'm hearing a more quasi religious tone to it with anthropological overtones that imply Christ committed some form of mortal sin by attempting to dominate over mans free will to exercise that free will...freely.
and again.
To which I suppose the correct response would be...THE 6th COMMANDMENT. Thou Shalt Not Kill.
PIESTOOOOOORM!
MortalKhrist is the only poster who can have pie.
Whatever. I like it because it's unusual.
Nothing makes a Korean noobie happier than knowing that they make such ripples early in their experience on a forum.
I am curious if she is an American-born Korean or from the country of her lineage. Just a curiosity; nothing more.
Pie is gooood.
If it's anything like Katana brought to the party, I'm game.
This thread is as crazy as the last post thread.
Man--I'd really like some pie.
