The AI is not very hard anymore

I used to be able to play with 8 AI players all on hard (w/1 ally) and they would give me a run for my money in the beginning of the game... until I build up and wipe them out :)

Now it seems that they are very passive.  They don't push out and take planets nearly as fast and it seems they really don't care about me building a titan.

In short, the AI difficulty seems like it got knocked down a few pegs.  Maybe that was a side effect of the "AI optimization"... guess I'm going to start playing with "unfair" AI players and see if it's a challenge.

I agree - something in the AI is too tame now; in the first SINS the thing was great; it would make huge fleets and tenaciously hold onto a planet.  I remember a fleet battle that lasted well over 30 minutes; I had to retreat cap ships and repair them and send them back into it... now, since Diplomacy its gone WAY downhill.  It doesn't even seem to be building more than 1 capital ship in this version even on Unfair.  I have not seen it try a Titan yet.

Is it depressed?

The AI is currently being worked on. There are lots of issues with it, the fact that AI players' capital ships keep jumping between two adjecent owned gravity wells being one of it's most important failures. Also, the AI is not even able to move it's titans yet, which also needs to be addressed.

If you try the Cruel or Vicious difficulty you might have a bit of a better challenge at the moment, since with that massive income advantage the AI is still able to spem a good amount of frigates and cruisers to keep you busy with.

You could always try playing it against human players...

I typically play with friends against AI.  So for it to suck this much is a huge buzz kill
