"Unfair" AI difficulty issue

The AI seem to be lacking in Rebellion but this has been bought up a few times already. I played a game against 3 hard AI and only one of them attacked me throughout the 3-4 hour game and even then it was with a handful of ships and no capitals. They did start to spam the Novalith eventually but their fleets remained small and scattered.

I decided to up the difficulty to see if that would help, it did and it didn't, on unfair 1v1 they never attacked me, not once, they didn't build any Novaliths nor did they build any communication things to spread culture or star bases. They maxed out their capital ship cap so they had 11 cap ships they they trained to rank 3 but they built nothing else, just the capital ships. I sent in a titan and just did hit and runs till they were all dead as they never chased me, they just kept returning to one of their planets where their titan was kept.

Also the AI's tendency to run away like they normally do when confronted with a larger enemy fleet seems to be even more prevalent, I had a fleet of 20 corvettes and a capital ships and an enemy fleet of about 20 frigates, 5 missile frigates and 2 capital ships legged it, unless their fleet was about 3 times the size of mine they would never engage me.

Also there is the issue with AI not using titans but that has been mentioned in the forums multiple times.

So far I am enjoying it despite the issues but that's what a Beta is for. Look forward to full release, good work guys.

Yup, I sort of have the same problem, I remember in diplomacy even on normal the AI would attack you. In the beta on normal the AI doesn't seem to expand to more than three planets, even if there is no opposition.

I've also noticed the same thing with capital ships, the AI will make loads of them but will never use them to attack or anything.

Yep, ive played a random generated large map, me and 3 hard AI's free for all, and the strongest AI only had a fleet of 10-4 capital ships, and barely anything else. I was almost never attacked, 1 time an enemy flet of 15 frigates + 1cap sat in a neutral gravity well adjacent to my front line planets (right on the edge of the well, ready to jump to into my territory), and sat their for about 10 minutes while my whole fleet was destroying one of their planets. i sent a minor fleet to stall any potential attack, about 12-15 missile frigates, and they all turned tail and ran. the AI just hopefully hasnt been fully implemented yet.

Same in my game.

Played a free for all with 3 other AI on normal, normal and hard difficult. They barely did nothing! I had 11 planets and the enemy ai never got more than 3 planets and only a very small fleet. They builded some starbase but thats all :(

Rebellion would be a BLAST to play, but currently, the ai doesnt put up any challenge at all

Hopefully they fix the AI soon. I'd be much more inclined to test out the beta if the game actually put up a challenge. As of right now though, I find myself just going back to Triniry, since the beta is too boring.

This is a Beta though so by definition it is unfinished the point of playing it isn't so much for your enjoyment as it is to improve the final game and fix issues. It's a recent common misconception with gamers that a Beta is essentially a demo of the final game. Couldn't be further from the truth.

True, but I never insinuated that it was a demo. At the moment though, not only does the lack of difficulty make the game unenjoyable to test, but it also makes it difficult to assess the balance of the game, since the AI doesn't respond properly.

I'm not going to get into a long winded debate about this, I'm just saying that the AI should be looked into.

I have given up playing with unfair hoping that cruel would work better in the beta. Previously in Diplomacy i had problems handling Unfair.

Last time the AI had a fleet to wipe me out 5 times in row but it just stayed on their home planet and they did nothing. Also the love building lots of carriers and missle cruisers but nothing to support it...
