co-op multiplayer - pooled resource mode

please!

I often play Sins co-op with a friend against various AI configurations. However, I find that the game doesn't naturally encourage collaboration. The problem is that we are either too far apart in start zones to assist one another or we're too close together and end up competing for initial resources. So we devolve into playing without much interaction - we divide up the AI and just play as individuals. I'd like sins to have more of the natural collaboration that Dawn of War II offers.

I think the ability to automatically pool resources with teammates would do a lot for creating a better co-op experience. This would enable one person to zerg with the Rebels and the other to build defensive starbases with the loyalists without having to worry about giving credits, ore, etc. regularly. I would be interested to hear what other people think of this...

I like the idea but how would you implement different fleet supplies???

I think pooling resources would be a terrible idea. In multiplayer games there are people who literally don't give a crap about their teammates and they would just consume huge amounts of resources only to aid their own cause, leaving the other teammates with next to nothing to use. Also, in singleplayer games the AI might be unable to know how to use this feature and end up doing the same as described in the multiplayer scenario, just consuming all resources for itself.

The only way this could work is when you play with a few friends against other opponents (probably AI players), because you can talk with your friends while playing (on TeamSpeak for example) and make sure there are always enough resources available for everyone of you to use when needed.

Pooling resources is generally an underused function in RTS games for reasons stated above. However I think it could be very useful in this game because  you have to commit into economy/military because you need the labs.

just put a 5k button to give ressources ...

I think you're right.  It is undervalued and there do need to be some ways to support this better.

Maybe a slider like in Master of Orion taxes? You can use the slider to set the percentage of your income to put into a pool that all allied players can use.
