Vasari Beam Burst Needs a Tweak

I know we are not testing those races yet, but from past game seeing this beam work is just ugly.

what I mean by this is when its firing its a really short beam blast , I believe I looked at this in the past games and its set to like less then a second.  I modded this in my mod and set the beam burst to 2 seconds and it looks 10 times better.  that short burst is just god awful ugly.  It makes no sense to see a beam blast fire at such a short interval.  Watching this beam work I feel that im watching a strobe light.  truthfully it hurts my eyes watching it flash like that.

I'm kind of hoping you guys feel the same way and that maybe we can get the Devs to look at this and adjust the firing blast length a bit to make this beam look somewhat normal.

OK, so let the debate begin.

I like the pulse beam, and as a particle effect modder, I'm 110% fine with it being left the way it currently is.

They've slightly altered them for rebellion, (again you probably won't notice unless you visit the artifacvt world and get into the correct fire arcs of the titan), as a result they look a lot better when fired for short durations like that. Think babylon 5's minbari fighter beam cannon for an idea.

I would have to say that if you all saw my version of the beam firing that you guys would like it better.  that small flash it does now does not seem right nor would I ever think that a short burst like that could ever do any sustained damage.

The sustained beam looks weird

trust me, I've tried looking at just about every combination of beam types for the Vasari

making those green beams look like Advent beams is rather "un-Vasari"

the pulses look great, and the muzzle/hit effects match the pulses as well...

OK, hold on a second, I'm not referring to the multi Green pulse they shoot. I'm talking about the Yellow colored beam they shoot.  The one that's flashing really short burst when they fire.  not the one that's green and looks like Arrow heads.

That one looks perfectly fine.  Hope that clears up the confusion.

Do you know the one Im talking about now?

I know what are you talking about, the beam mounted on sides of the Kortul and in the center of Vulkoras. I do not mind its short duration, although it could be perhaps very slightly longer. But i believe it could use some facelift, in the same way the wave cannon projectiles did, they could make it bit more "glowing" and diffused.

Yeah, and when you look at that teaser, in the brief moment when Vasari fleet is shown, one of the ships, probably Vulkoras fires it and it goes THROUGH the structure, as it explodes. Similar effect, if possible, would be nice ingame as well.

BTW those wave cannon projectiles, although they now look cooler, they are far too big, when fired by either Enforcers or the Kultorask. They are good when fired by Orkulus, though. Anyway, did not Orkulus use to fire purplish projectiles before?

/p

Pulse Beams, we all know what you're talking about. The arrowhead ones are Pulse Waves.

They've changed them in Rebellion, they fire in rapid succession now, it looks better.

I am aware of what you are talking about

pulse BEAMS

not

pulse WAVES

and I stand by everything I have said thus far

The Orkulus had a unique weapon called Destructors (or Chaos Bolts in the game files) that fired purple bolts of electricity.

Beams cannot be coded to go through things, even with particle effects; it just doesn't work correctly no matter what...

I was not talking about Destructors, but small projectiles, which are fired by Orkulus, before you even actually do a weapon upgrades, which gives you those Destructors. These projectiles were purple/pink IIRC, now when i attacked Orkulus at Artefct World it fired greenish projectiles, similar to the stuff fired by Heavy Cruisers.

Tough luck with those beams, it would be really cool, if it was possible.

EDIT: Just played a bit with entity files to give me all Titans at the start of the game, to take a look at them. Found out that Vasari Loyalist one fires TEC beams and autocannons, lol. Shame the one, i actually care about most is the unfinished one. BTW i hope, once its done, it will fire phase missiles from those "wings" in exactly same manner like Orkulus does, it looks awesome and now with those new visuals it would be even more awesome.

Other thing, bit unrelated, i was bit dissapointed with the Titan textures. Especially with this "Vorastra", its fairly well textured from the top, but from the bottomside, there is basically nothing. No visible hull plates or stuff like on Orkulus, no windows, nothing. I was hoping, there would be shitload of windows actually, as its meant to be a mobile homeworld. I know its not done yet, but i suppose the textures are pretty much final.

I am fairly sure that the textures are NOT final.

The weapons on the Orkulus are as follows:

Pulse Guns

Destructors

Phase Missiles

Wait What?! You can already play Vasari or are you just looking at the code? Because on every thread that discusses other races, people are telling me that you can only play tec, and I see topics like this, and I go into a tailspin on whether I am getting duped.

You can edit some file to spawn you with any ships you want. So i gave myself all the titans :) , i tried to resist, but the urge was too strong. I do not see other races to be available at least for a month (wild guess, hopefully i am wrong) and was too curious to wait so long.

I do not know however, how to make other factions playable.

@Krdax> I suppose there can be some minor changes, as adding teamcolor to the textures, but i do not see them retexturing half of the ship model. It was not unfinished after all, i mean not properly UV-mapped, there was just plain hull texture without any features on the bottom. I am more inclined to believe, they could not fit more stuff onto the texture. What is the size of titan textures btw? Same as Starbases? 2048x2048 px or whatever the number was?

You can also see some of the Vasari weapon effects by attacking them at the Artifact Planet, the Titan has pulse beams, so do the fighters. I'd say Karl was spot on by describing them as being similar to Minbari beams now, very short, rapid bursts of beam fire in quick succession.

That video has plenty of footage of minbari fighters at work for those who are wondering what where talking about.

Dont mind me disagreeing with you,  If you all will notice in that Clip From Babylon 5, ONLY the fighters have that short burst beam.  the Main Battlecruisers have a much longer beam blast.  My point still stands that its Corney looking on the Vasari main Cap ships and should be fixed.  but I know it wont so Ill just mod it myself.

Actually only the biggest front beams have them. But that sequance was made early in B5's run, it's only when you veiw footage from later that they had the budget to show all of their beams firing, then the rest where just as pulsed.

Though like boshimi336 i don't mind disagreement. Just pointing out your not entierly accurrate.
