AI strategy suggestions

i'm wondering if the AI might perform a little better if it had dedicated research and combat goals, especially with the new aspects of the game.

I'm not sure how much it does this now, but it seems like the AI favors super-weapons above all else.

Here are the suggestions for enhancements:

Aggressor favors ships, ship production facilities, and maybe some ship upgrades, much as it does now. good, old fashioned fleet spam.

Defender favors super-weapon rushing after setting up star bases and other defenses.

Economist favors building an economy and then titan rushing.

Researcher might do best for the research victory, but maybe picks a more balanced approach if that is not a victory condition.

the ability for the AI to do this will depend on its income, which is modified depending on difficulty and relies early capture of neutral worlds.

non-aggressors will have to build fleets as well and any may build titans or superweapons if they have the cash, but these might at least serve as initial goals for the AI to give it some coherence.

My problem is that the AI practically stops assaulting other players' planets after a few hours. It just sits there and does nothing (except building capital ships and titans). Also, I would like to see the AI build larger fleets instead of spamming capital ships (which are easily destroyed because of their low levels) which contest of different support cruisers combined with vast amounts of frigates and corvettes. That is what the AI used to do in Trinity and that actually worked great.

I do agree with you though, that each specific AI type should notably differ from the other behavior types.

So far in the Beta it seems like the AI is so focused on one goal that it sacrifices everything else, or rage quits.

I've encountered a number of situations I think of as "rage quit" where after a few small battles I'll make a push into enemy territory and just hit a bunch of worlds sort of sitting there, like someone quit the game... and maybe I run across a capital ship wandering around aimlessly but that is about it.  No idea what is up with that.  They're defeated at that point, but they act like it.

A few times I've seen the AI pull off some super weapons, but then the rest of their empire is largely crap and can be plowed through pretty easily.  Other times I get a lone titan or handful of capital ships but not enough of a fleet to support them beyond that and no matter how strong their defenses a fleet that can move always wins.  Also they never seem to combine their fleets and defenses such as shifting their fleet to support a planet being attacked.

Only recently did I have a game where the AI and I met a couple times in large battles.   Although the AI was foolish enough to try to make a run at me by first going through the pirate world... several times.

yeah, more balanced fleets from the AI would be welcome,  i did like how it behaved in Trinity for the most part.

Least the AI isnt pulling "The Brave Sir Robin" behavior of vanilla 1.01 (RUN AWAY! at the first sign of the enemy). I think work still needs to be done for the AI to digest, and balance the changes, and additions to each of the factions.

Right now the Titans have a very bad habit of solo suiciding themselves at fully fortified planets, and fully upgraded starbases. If they wanted to imitate the IJN Yamatos last suicide mission they succeed 9 of 10 times, and blow up in a proficient military manner.

I noticed similar behavior where the AI stops attacking in force after a certain point in the game. It usually is at the point to where superweapons are deployed. After that the AI just deploys small skirmish forces that are easily repelled by planetary defenses.

I have noticed so far that Unfair AI's are more aggressive when pirates are on.  perhaps it is more opportunstic as I'm consistently attacked if I am also dealing with a pirate raid.
