Big maps have been giving me two star bases to utilize and I am trying to see what strategies seem to be working with human players.
Entrenchment usually involved me placing my star base close in to my planet where it could defend me structures.
Rebellion Loyalist have been giving me lots of possibilities.
If a planet has only one route from the enemy, I usually have been trying to place them both forward to cover the 2 warp in locations. If I can get a little warning I try to have an Akkan, Dunov and 2 Cielo and 10 Hoshikkos with my Fighter ports providing limited flak coverage. If I have the points I thow in some Garuda too as a system defense fleet.
It works surprisingly well if the Dunov can set off the EMP burst and magnatize to disable the Cap ships abilities while the Akkan extends the range of the bases and disables ships. With the Cielo there to direct fire it has been surprisingly devastating to 400+ command point fleets. Leaving only the Titan alive when the dust settles.
Throw in mines and some system turrets and even the Ragnarok has gone down pretty fast. Occasionally my opponents will strike my jump inhibitor, so I now build two. Also following them back to their system with just the Dunov and Akkan let me create massive casualties on their Severely weakened ships from jump destabilization.
Now my "friends" are using this strat against me and I have not come up with a good work around yet. Coming out of hyperspace leaves my ships to slow to get out quikcly and even If I try to push past the bases they kill my support ships leaving me unsupported and unable to leave. If I leave I die.
At this point my Orgrovs and Hoshikkos, and all frigates are dead. My cap ships have been beaten down and if I don't have my Kols I'm facing swarms of 30sh bomber squadrons. Add in the ion cannon and EMP burst and magnetize which usually locks my Kols down. I'm helpless. I have lost 12 Cap ships, Titan, and 90 frigates/cruisers. Even if I win I'm open to massive retaliation.
That's if Last resort left me anything.
