More Realistic Planet bombardment, cities and capturing

One of the things Ive always wanted to see in sin of a solar empire is more realism when it comes to the planets so I thought might as well say my opinion and see if it gets heard. I believe bombardment should be more realistic, I mean you nuke a planet to ashes and nothing happens to it, no nuclear fallout, the planet looks like nothing happened to it and I can just send people to live on it like nothing. So I thought there should be an option to send an invasion force to take the planet like some sort of special ability for a ship of some sort and from space you can see the war like small fighter icons flying around the planet and small explosions on the cities nothing to fancy so it doesnt make the game lag just something that looks cool thats fun to look at. I also thought cities should look more realistic they look good now but they sream painted on surface doesn't feel real. I also think nuking the planet should still belike a last resort option a special ability for ships with the capability. I believe this would make the game more fun and also adding a realistic feel to the game. So leave youre opiniong and try to spread the word if you agree with me the more people that know the better the chances.

This sort of thing has been suggested since original Sins came out, probably about time to just forget about it.

Well you could technically make a particle affect to make it look more like a war is going on, but invasions just don't seem to be the way the Sins universe works. Some sci-fi universes just have the balance of power so much in favor of space power that ground forces are basically obsolete. Sure, the TEC have marines now, but they're fighting in enemy ships, not planets.

Also, keep away from my nukes! :borg:

I see what you meen by the sci-fi universe thing but in sins you bomb the planet to dust without any consequences and I also enjoy nukes thats why I said they should still be an option for all the ships you used to bomb planets with.

I agree with you. I played sins of solar empire and when I play games, I love to see many things going on. When ever I bombard a planet It just doesn't feel like anything is actually happening. Adding those few details just make the game a whole lot better. I therefore say again that i comepletly agree with what you are saying.

Well if you think about it; if you look closely at the planet now it looks like a roach motel city. I figure that's kind of realistic if your vasari i mean they kind of look like roaches.

When the first sins was being beta tested i asked for it to be somthing like galactic civilization at the very least.  But we just buy and play the game lol our thoughts don't matter.

O:)

Personally I find the planetary bombardment animations to be somewhat "meh" mainly because the bombs travel so slowly and mainly because they don't cover the planet.

Change bombs to missiles that randomly strike the planet all over and we have a deal because that would be much more interesting to watch and pleasing on the eye. Distant Stars mod for trinity had a good idea with the cluster bombing of planets but it still didn't "cover" the planet so it seemed like this: "Oh wow, I saturated one side and I win? What about the other half of the planet?"

All it takes, to look somewhat good, is the multiple-stage change of the planet surface texture, to greyish, brownish version with clearly visible burning areas. Then, once the bombardment stops and planet is recolonised, the texture will again return in several stages to its original version.

This cant be difficult to implement, the only difficult part or challenge if you wish, is to make the continuous change of the texture to look really "continuous", not abrupt and in turn comletely unrealistic.

End of Timmaigh's quote

Its not that is difficult per say, is it worth spending much need CPU cycles on is the question.
