A sugestion refarding flack units.

I know the possibility of any new units is slim now that we have entered beta.... but carrier spam is still quite a bit overpowered... able to decimate almost every thing very quickly, yet individually strike craft are week....

As such I dont think improving current flack units would help the situation much as they would just make the problem with individual strike craft worse.... however, what if we could get an anti-strike craft heavy cruiser... or even an anti strike craft capital ship?

Each race already has an anti-strike craft capital ship(s).

TEC: Kol (Flak Burst.) Dunov (Magnetize)
Advent: Halcyon (Huge number of fighters, Telekenetic Push.)
Vasari: Kortul (Jam Weapons.) Sikrantra (Repair Cloud heals allied fighters.)

The only "problem" with Flak is that they're ineffective against Bombers. They shred fighters by the hundreds.

I was working on a mod a while back with Defense Cruisers which were supposed to tier 7/8 and made to counter late-game bomber spam.  Very heavy frigates with anti-light weapons and lots of AA guns.

It would seem that they don't have any intention of including something like this in Rebellion.

I would really like to see a few new anti-bomber tools.  Perhaps add 1 research topic to each race(shared by both factions) on this topic.

 

Perhaps something like:



TEC: Superior Blast-shielding(1 level):  Grants capital ships an additional 1 armor per capital ship level against damage dealt by bombers(to a max of 10 extra armor for level 10 capital ships).  Frigates gain a static extra 1 armor against damage dealt by bombers.

 

Advent: Telekinetic Overdrive(2 levels):  Each time an advent fighter squadron deals a killing blow to an enemy ship(including a single member of another strikecraft squadron), that squadron gets +10/20% weapon damage, max speed, and acceleration for 2 seconds.

 

Vasari: Suppressive Fire(1 level): Enemy ships damaged by vasari fighters are distracted for 3 seconds.  Distracted strikecraft have their accuracy reduced by 45% and distracted frigates have their accuracy reduced by 15%.  Capitalships & titans are unaffected.

 

Wellt hose were just the first ideas that popped into my head. The point is I'd like to see each race get a new technology to help counter massive bomber spam.  I figured a buff to bomber-killing speed was appropriate to advent(as telekinetic push already gives them great defense against bombers) and a defense booster would be appropriate for TEC(as they have no real defensive measures against bombers but have 2 cap ship abilities for killing strikecraft.  Perhaps my choice wasn't ideal for Vasari(since they can already jam strikecraft weapons), but I liked the idea.

 

I suspect all three would be mid-late game Techs, perhaps something like 5-7 military lab requirement.

I like the idea of blast shielding.  Not that strong mind you, but still..  A buff of let's say .5 armor per level, starting at 1.0 against SC would be kinda cool.  The others seem like they'd just make fighters OP again.  I'll see if I can come up with anything..

Description: Titans and starbases now  telekinetically reflect 10/20/30% of damage done to them by strike craft

 

Vasari: Turbulent Phase Wake

Description: Titans and starbases gain the ability to create destructive ripples in phase space, causing any strike craft moving near them to sustain 3/4/5 DPS.
