Pointers for a MP newbie (me)

And I do mean a complete newbie.

Where should I go to get in games? Is there a steam group or just the in game lobby? Is any faction particularly mp newbie friendly?

Also what is the early game meant to play out like? I'm sure it's nothing like SP so I can't just fart around with my initial Cap. Are there specific goals I should beeline as fast as possible like trade, culture or a specific ship type?

TEC is prolly the least micro intensive faction.

Best thing to do? watch some pros play and copy em!

Here is link to a thread with some replays.

Just log onto the Ironclad Online and look for open games.  You might be more comfortable starting out in "comp stomps" against AI.  Sometimes people will host games with a title that indicates a desire to only play with newer people.  The good news for you is that there are a lot of newish people online now.  (But there are pros around, too.  You should be able to see who is a pro and who is new from their player record, but only in Rebellion.)

What sucks is that Ironclad and Stardock don't care about their customers so they put out a terrible multiplayer system full of minidumps, desync bugs, and a UI with fewer useful features then a Ford Model T

You do realize you're talking about a beta right? Even if you are refering to Trinity, I have yet to experience a mini-dump and desync tends to be the system of the player before the game itself. I do admit the UI could use some improvements, but overall it is really well crafted.

From a person who has played over 4000 games online in Sins Vanilla, Entrenchment, Diplomacy, and Trinity, I can assure you that you have been brainwashed into thinking that minidumps are a result of systems of the player.  The minidumps are a result of (among many other things) poor coding and lack of multi-core support.  Also, the UI doesn't even include an integrated friends tab that it used to have in Trinity, so it is in every way a step back and further proof that Stardock just wants to sell the game, they don't care if people enjoy it or stick with for longer then a day or two.

Yes well leaving that aside, what is a solid start for an Advent player? I tried going TEC but they just bore me.

Start off loyals, they have the better technology at the momment. Also add red13ff on steam, I'll help you learn the advent if you wish, or just play without pressure.
