I have an idea

ok so few different topics on titans and i know im just adding to it but what if you greatly increase the amount of XP a titan gives when it dies and i mean a big increase.

The view from what i can see from other posts is that XP needs to carry over when a titan dies (many dont want this because it makes losing a titan not matter) ,or else the person with the level 1 titan will lose. XP carrying over causes people not to care if their titan dies or not so results in titan spam just keep sending it in over and over until level 10.

Titans give 350 XP at the mo - what if a titan gave say 10,000 XP points. Crazy right but people will be far less crazy with titans, it will make losing a titan a big deal as many have pointed out it really mans nothing late game.

Players will be afraid to lose even level 10 titans for fear of giving XP to the enemy capital ships

10,000 xp might seem like allot but its not really. If you had 9 green (0 experience) cap ships in a system and you destroyed an enemy titan those 9 ships would only be level 4.

so why not make the XP 15 or 20 thousand - it keeps titans the beats that they are , keeps the xp carry over that we seem to be keeping and it makes losing a titan matter

Problem is if 1 titan kills another its jumps in level would be making it next to impossible for the person who lost the titan to come back.

What about instead of preserving the level of the titan, or wiping the level, you loose 50% of the exp the titan has already earned.  So, even you you loose a level 10 titan you can never come back with one over level 5 right away.  I don't really like the idea of titans coming back the same level as when they were destroyed, but I suppose I don't have much in the way of strong feelings about how exactly it should be changed.  Also, maybe increase the cost of replacing a titan ONLY after the first one has been built, kind of like how you get a free cap ship at the start but then have to pay after.  Maybe at least double the cost of the Titans after the first one is built.

Exactly. the titan currently needs 19500 XP to level 10. A Titan beating another Titan for whatever reason will instantly get the titan halfway there, not to mention a level 1 titan instantly jumps to what, level 6? Talk about feding the Titan.

Edit: lol, been ninja'd

Titans are horribly vulnerable against overwhelming numbers. A mid- to lategame fleet can take Titans apart. It's just that you feed the titan XP every time, so a player with enough resources can just keep suiciding the titan into an enemy fleet to level up.

Looking at the amount of XP you need to sink into a titan to make it fully effective I think the titan should not simply be reset. I liked the "keep level but loxe XP" bug in beta 1, but maybe that one is a little unrefined.

After reading various threads about titan leveling and XP my suggestion would be that a titan retains its level (and XP) up to level 4 after being destroyed, much like a capship can buy its level up to level 3. Also, similarly to the various crew training researches the races can do for normal capital ships there is a fifth titan research (tier 6 or 7) that adds "crew escape pods" that increase the retained level to a maximum of 6 (so you may retain the ability to use your "ultimate"). This reseach adds a visible effect to the titan (either on the hull or as part of the destruction animation) so other players know you researched the ability.

Seems more reliable than cutting the XP in half to me.

fair point but titans go down all the time without another titan to engage it

THIS. Not too light to make the loss of titan not matter like now, but not too harsh like if all titans started at level 1, from scratch.
