Fleets launching fighters/bombers while starbases don't

plasma storm fighters

I've noticed if you place a starbase in a sector with a plasma storm, build fighter bays, the fighters remain in the bays and never launch. if you click on the recall fighter button the message 'launch prohibited' is displayed.

While this is going on, the starbase is being hammered by fighters launched from carriers and support carriers.

Playing as TEC Loyalist.  Advent fighters attack starbase. Haven't had any TEC come in and attack the starbase yet. My Capital ships with fighters launch fighters in the plasma storm sector with the starbase.

Steam just updated the game today, april 24. Verified that all files are correct through steam so have the latest as of today. Beta 2b (.80)

no units should be able to launch things in plasma storm... hmm...

Now that's a weird bug..  Why would plasma storms have gotten borked?

I saw something in one of my previous games that leads me to believe what's happening is the strikecraft LAUNCH is prevented in the plasma storm, not the PRESENCE of fighters. Moreover, if the carriers sit outside the gravwell they are apparently not under the effects of the storm, allowing them to launch their fighters and bombers freely. I noticed that when carriers first enter a plasma storm node while outside the gravwell, they will immediately launch their strikecraft and the craft advance, but as the carriers move through into the gravwell proper the strikecraft return to the carrier and stay in there until the carrier leaves the system.

My capital ship pursued the carrier crafts while its fighters engaged the bombers and fighters so moving into the plasma storm had no effect on the launched fighters if they were launched outside the gravity well.

Then increase the radius of plasma storm?

You sure it wasnt a magnetic cloud. Plasma storms encompass the entire gravity well

It's a purple plasma storm, not the bluish magnetic cloud.  I placed the starbase next to the mine to keep those pesky enemies from stealing it from me.  The problem is it keeps getting hammered by fighters/bombers and no ability to defend itself.

You would think a starbase would have flack cannons to protect itself from strike craft!

Isn't magnetic cloud the one preventing use of abilities? If it is, there can't be a starbase, as none of the builders could use it's build skill , quite annoying sometimes ^^.

True, so you do the next best thing, park 10 flak frigates around your base, I've done it....

Or a Kortul/Kol/Halcyon/TEC Hangar/Vasari Hangar.  Any of those capitals has the might to shrug off bomber spam.

Except, you can't build hangers in that type of grav well.

The Vasari Rebels can jump in a starbase by a phase lane. This should make for some interesting strategies when the Vasari finally become available to the public. :)

I think it is because the SB is always in the plasma storm and the fighters get made with the fighter launch already disabled. The ships already had fighters out in the previous system and temporarily docked them to jump into the plasma storm, and undocked them because the fighters are launched by default.
