I'm not a pro(?) player yet not a noob.

Just somebody who still manages to enjoy a good comp stomp.

I'm trying to find somebody out there that wants to play and if so let's schedule a game.  With my security here at home I can't host.  Any takers out there?  Any trolls AKA comp stomp haters can keep to themselves.

I can play with you if you want. LunaAscendant on ICO. Do you play rebellion or trinity?

Rebellion.  Oh yeah, I'm esorah.  What I'd ideally like to do is play on 'slow' settings in a 2human vs 1ai(cruel) setting.

Ummm...  If you only play against AI, then by definition, you're essentially a noob.  I don't mean to be an ass, I'm just trying to clarify.  Maybe a small percentage of the AI-only players would have average skill level for PvP, and that's a big maybe.

This all depends, if he is using the time against AI like I did to learn all the techs and practice macro. He will fit very well into multiplayer once he learns some strategies although that is not the case as I talked to him on ICO and he just wants to comp stomp :(

Weren't you the one that got his ass kicked by Wail of the sacrificed and then ragequit like a bratty teen?[/sarcasm]

The definition of a noob is someone who fails to understand the basic game mechanics and/or refuses to learn from mistakes and/or declines the help of other players in those matters. It doesn't matter if you are a singleplayer or multiplayer gamer, both have an equal chance of not being a noob. If a player fails the first few times after being tossed in the cold waters of multiplayer that's usually part of the learning process. If he keeps getting his ass kicked and still refuses to learn anything from it that's being a noob. So please, stop trying to insult inexperienced or singleplayer players by mixing them together with that kind of people.

Noob = Newbie = New player

Experience is what ends being a noob. Game type has nothing to do with it. If someone has played a sufficient amount of time on only AI games they stop being a noob.

Failing to understand, getting something wrong, not being good, or even refusing to learn from mistakes has nothing to do with it. It only means someone is new to the experience or medium.

I feel stupid for arguing this. X|  I just didn't like your definition.  -_-

Although, you could say they are a noob to multiplayer specificity I guess.

Oh yea, add 'Rillet' on steam or ICO and I'l play. Same name for both.

Actually what mcintire described as a "noob" is completely correct. A newbie is not the same as a noob. Newbies are -like you already stated- new to a game and therefore generally still have a limited knowledge of all of its features. That does not at all mean they won't get better at that game over time though, which is what differs them from the so called noobs.

Newbies are not Noobs.

While the english wikipedia does admit it orginates from the same word it also makes this distinction and also references to an article about online slang in gaming (not gonna link it, look it up if you're interested).

@MayallCommunion - As I recall that game I believe that I wasn't the only one to leave that game due to your inability to handle your own planets much less assist two of us noobs, who didn't wish to play against your 3 AI's set on cruel.  Perhaps MayallCommunion needs to learn to play with others before he claims to be much more than a noob himself.  It's peeps like this that keep some players happy with single player games.

Esorah we never played a game together. I said I did not want to play a comp stomp. So what the hell are you going on about? You must be getting me mixed up with someone else.

@ DirtySanchezz - You're the troll that I was making a passive mention of.  By the way, your name suits your personality.

@ MayallCommunion - Sorry, now that I recall the conversation, you're right.  Please accept my apologies.  The multiplayer has left me a bit jaded lately.

As I recall my last multiplayer game I believe that I wasn't the only one to leave due to a third parties inability to handle planets much less assist two of us noobs, who didn't wish to play against said third parties, 3 AI's set on cruel.  Perhaps those who accept games with noobs, need to learn to play with others before claiming to be much more than noobs themself.  It's peeps like this that keep some players happy with single player games.

I'm really not a troll.  I just try to encourage people to play Sins in online multiplayer PvP and I call it like I see it.  As I see it, anyone who only plays against the AI is in all likelihood a "noob" in terms of skill level.  That doesn't mean that they are bad people; there's nothing wrong with being a noob.  At worst they're a little cowardly.

I play against AI, I have no problems with that, I know what I'm doing, and I enjoy it, have done for years.

Multiplayer doesnt really appeal to me unless its LAN as its the dialogue you can get going that draws me, in the same physical room dialogue not VoIP communication.

Am I a cowardly noob, because I only do multiplayer games via LAN, and have never had anyone to play Sins with at a LAN? Or, like esorah, am I just someone looking for people to play with?

Though calling people that like playing versus the AI only noobs in an effort to draw them into the multiplayer scene to have them prove they aren't noobs may not be the best way to do that...

Well when you see point trading, cheating, downright hacking, and a bunch of noobs who do nothing but sixpool cheapshots in every multiplayer RTS game you've tried, it's not a very good incentive.

It's only sad because you claim you're not a noob, but play on slow settings.

I could build the sistine chapel from scratch by the time a slow speed game finishes up.

But perhaps they arent as comfortable or experienced with the game as you are. Maybe "me vs the galaxy" seems a little daunting while their trying to find their comfort zone, their style of play with the races.

I play slow at the start of every expansion so I can get a feel for the new directions the race has taken, so I can be comfortable with them and know how I want to play them, before I take it up a notch, then repeat.
