accessing beta

I have just pre-ordered my copy of this awesome looking game and I was wondering how I can access a copy of the beta as it says I was able to do in an e-mail I gotfrom Star Dock

Add it to steam. Let it download. Hit "play". Welcome to the beta.

 I bought the game through the star dock website, not through stream. although it said it has now been added to your steam account after purchase it hasn't appeared. any idea why?
