Corvettes

How do I use them effectively?

I've gotten a few games under my belt and I can't quite figure out the best use for these new corvettes. In their info card, it says they are good vs pretty much everything.  Lets start off with a few basic questions.

What kinda of armor and damage type do they do? light armor and anti-medium damage? Is that close? Which leads to the next question.

What type of ships deal the most damage against corvettes and what ships do corvettes get bonus damage against?

I see the way they fight is similar to strike craft. They do strafing runs then turn around and fly away, then repeat. Does this quick movement make them hard to target for some other frigates or cruisers that can only shoot straight ahead? Most ships sit still while firing, so could this movement let them evade getting hit?

They also seem very quick. They can chase down retreating ships without mercy. They line up for phase jumps quickly and will outrun everything else in the game. Then their weapons can slow down enemy engines so the rest of your fleet can catch up.

How good would they perform as scouts compared to the real scout frigate? besides not having auto explore.

They do anti-very heavy damage if I recall correctly. At this point corvettes are best countered by flak frigates and massive fighter spam. Though any AoE abilities are very helpful as well (the Ankylons' Disruption Matrix ability for example is a great corvette annihilator).

Corvettes are best used as LRM (Illuminators excluded because of their sidebanks)-, LF -and HC killers (those have a hard time focusing their firepower on the corvettes without excessive microing). Though you really need a bunch of them to be effective in combat (there is strength and safety in numbers).

The corvettes are unable to compete with scout frigates later on since they haven't got the ability to ignore Phase Jump Inhibitors. They make formidable scouts early game though.

Hope that answers some of your questions and helps you understand the corvettes a bit better!

Odd, I though Corvettes is good vs fighter and bomber, but I guess that belong to Homeworld 1 and 2.

They deal composite damage so their damage type is very flexible.

They decimate LRM frigates.

They are very wells uited to being used as a counter for capitalships as well(as long as the capitalship in question doesn't have AoE damage.  In particular they are amazingly good at killing carrier capitalships.

They have a bit of an advantage on LF

With some micro(exploiting the slow turn speed of frigates to attack from behind) they win against pretty much any non-flak frigates.

Additionally their great speed/manueverability makes them good as harassment and anti-scout tools.

Flak and AoE mess them up in a big way though.
