Alrighty modders I have but ONE question.

Why are there no mods dealing with a galciv II and sins crossover? Seriously the two best space games and no one has thought of adding the Galciv races to sins or the sins races to Galciv? I think the potential for epic is there.

Having said that I am well ware modding is much harder than it looks so I can understand why good mods are few and far between but I am just rather shocked that this area Sins X Galactic Civilizations has not been messed with.

Because they are too totally different forms of 4x.

Sins is a real time version with set ships and limited planet building.

GalCivII is a turn based version with designable ships and massive planet building concepts.

The two are on opposite sides of the 4x spectrum so as to be completely incompatible.

I've never played Galactic Civilizations. Its quite possible that the people that happen to mod Sins come more from the real time strategy game side of the genre rather than the turn based 4X side.

It is pretty much as Ryat said. There really is no way to port GC2 mechanics over to sins without it playing completely wrong. Its Apples, and Oranges.

Aw shucks, this makes me a sad panda.

There are a whole host of reasons why a gal civ II mod would be difficult....I think the most intimidating right up front would be making assets for 12 factions...

But anyway, as much as I love gal civ II, I really don't want to see an SoaSE mod for it...it would be a completely different game and likely not for the better...

Unless we do something like the Total War series and call it Sword of the Stars. :P

The one thing I miss about GalCiv is the espionage.  I hope they do an add-on for Rebellion with that.

Good thing that there is a mod that adds some espionage. ;) The devs could obviously make something much more complicated if they wanted to, but its there.

Heh, at one time I was actually thinking on the best way to do a SotS mod for Sins.  Hardest part would be dealing with section and weapon variety since there's only 9/9/9 slots available for ships.

Yeah, too different.

GalCiv deals with the entire empire as a whole.  Military actions, while necessary to win, actually occupy a minority of your time in GalCiv.

SoaSE is the complete opposite.

To accurately do a crossover, we would need an upgrade planet window the size of a tech tree.  (among other things that are outside the SoaSE engine's parameters).

I don't like to plug my mods, honest, but this was too good to pass up! He even used the word espionage.

What are you talking about?  Devs released the 3rd and 4th race with the last update, v0.999...
