Formations and controls

It would be nice, if some formations were added into the game, i mean like those the ships in the fleet create, when preparing for jump. It would be so much easier to control, if for example heavy cruisers did not clump together like bunch of retards, but kept the formation, when attacking enemy capship, starbase, titan, whatever...

Additionaly i would like command like "Guard" or "Protect" to be introduced, which can you use to command your ships to protect some important target. Like for example when i want the Overseers to stick to Orkulus, when it decides to move and harrass enemy fleet.

I too thought something like this would be a nice addition.

This. The ships ordered to protect something would preferably target enemies which attack it.

Whole heartedly agree with you, especially about Guard and Protect

I agree with this thread. I also would like repair frigates in general to move around in the fleet formation handing out bandages rather than idling behind my titan :/

One more thing, is there a way to select all units of the same type in the gravity well? If not, it should be there, it would help immensely.

Press Alt+click on unit. This will select all of the same units in gravity well. This goes for anything, not only ships (ie structures, constructors, strikecraft etc). It helps so much, that your mind explodes and you never see Sins the same way again ;P

I felt the same way in 2007 about this and requested it:

But other than the response in the above thread it didn't move any further.

Maybe we can put the bid in for this for the next sins.

Thanks.

@DarkSide73> perhaps we should.

Its ok guys, for now fleet formations will just eat up the only processor we use for everything else.. Ever notice how battleships rush in the front lines with hc , lf, while support ships are far off.. repair battlecruiser/cruisers at the back.. Thats the start

The Formation option is in how spread the fleet is: Tightly clustered fleets, normal and wide..

If you want your ships to be in formation after a jump then you need to right click them to jump together..

Don't worry--there is so much room for additions in this game. The checklist of features for rebellion has been ticked but they could optimize it if you want.

This thread sounds to me like "Homeworld" homesickness.  But there are a number of things the devs could adopt from that series that would significantly help SoSE.  I still go back and play them once in a while just for the grouping and task assignment as well as the 3D movement commands.

You can protect ONE ship using fleet formation, is very simply, and powerfull, practice with that, make a galaxy with some units and see the the movement of all ships on fleet formation.

Don't think it is only Homeworld; mostly all RTS games have something like this. For me, this comes from Rome Total War, where you can adjust formations down to the last detail. Don't need anything like that in Sins however.

I would like utilization of the 3D movement in combat/structure placement, right now I just use it to avoid enemy mines.

Frankly, the battles in Homeworld felt easier to control and navigate, despite being in full 3D - thanks to superior command/order system.
