Would it be possible to enable chat during lag?

You can pause the game while the game is lagging, so obviously the connected players are still able to interactive with other connected players to some degree. How much work would it be to enable chatting while the game lags? It would be a good interface improvement.

unfortunately the lag you are suffering from is the poor CPU core having a nervous breakdown from overwork,

and you want it to MORE work chatting,

also both stardock AND ironclad have stated that they will not be re-working the engine to multi-thread OR 64bit.
