What's after the Vasari - My take

Just a guess, but a solid one.

Anyone ever watch Stargate SG-1?

No? Well there was an alien race in that show known as the Ancients. They were by far the most technologically advanced race in the entire universe. They eventually gained ultimate enlightenment and became a race of gods, more or less. Before that happened though, they created what has since been called the "Replicators" (Or perhaps the Asguard made them, I can't remember. The Asguard are basically your typical Area 51 aliens.  X| ) . Originally intended, if I remember correctly, as civil servents more or less, they quickly developed rational and independent thought. They're a robotic race made entirely of nanites that combine into a tangible functional form to best cope with any given situation (usually bug-like spiders.) Eventually they're capable of forming into human analogues that are indistinguishable from a normal human. Even exploding, shooting, blasting or otherwise destroying them has no effect: They simply reform shortly afterward.

They can assimilate any technology, even Ancient technology, to further their own abilities. They can't be beat because any weapon, no matter how advanced, simply makes them stronger. Hull, ship designs, jump capabilities, phasing, they'd have it all and more. They improve upon anything they acquire, making it better in some way.

Get where I'm coming from?

Vasari;

Nanite creators? Check.

Advanced technology? Check.

Can't do a thing to stop them, even though the Vasari fleets are hinted as being huge? Check.

Their vast use of nanites, their fundamental technological might, and their powerful warships, all defeated so badly that entire sectors were simply "went dark"? If what's after the Vasari are not replicator-esque, I will be suprised.

Sci-fi TV shows are SO incredibly creative, they're like bottomless well of new ideas. I mean cyborgs, bugs, ancient races... who comes up with this stuff.

He haunted my dreams when I saw Alvin and the Chipmunks in theatres, and he comes onto the scene. x__x

I shall never be rid of him!

The Pegasus Replicators were made by the Ancients. The Milky Way Replicators were made by that one android girl who told them to protect themselves.

I think a big part of the problem is so much science is starting to catch up to scfi that serious scfi is getting really smart.  Unfortunately, really smart isn't something that gets much airplay.

When did you last time saw serious, intellectual debate on TV? With people with vastly different, radical views discussing moral principles, socio-economic organization, structure of power? With controversial speaker not being a pariah?

If you can't see thing like this, you can't expect to watch good sci-fi on TV.

Everything on TV is absolutely devoid of meaning. It's just bla bla bla. There's no hope for good sci-fi.

Sad but true. They could make an effort to use good hard science in new shows, but they wouldn't make their money back, since it wouldn't get a large enough viewer base.

As for my take on what the Vasari are running from, it's the Antarans.

"No! We must flee from the terror of our own creation!" shouted the Vasari.

"No, Vasari. You are the terror of your own creation." said the Advent.

"This prophecy weighs HEAVILY upon my heart," announced an unseen participant in the shadows.

"Stop stalling, Zeratul! We need to get out of here as soon as possible!" screamed a frustrated Vasari towards the Advent grouping.
