Sins and Account Sharing.

When I first bought Sins (2008? 2009?) I seem to recall hearing that we could share the game with our friends locally, and all play over lan and that this was not frowned upon. I understand only 1 could logon to the world server, but I believe the statement clarified we could still (officially endorsed) play with 4 people off 1 licensed copy.

 

Since I cannot find said post anymore, I want to know if this is/was ever allowed / endorsed. If so is it still endorsed? 

Even if it still endorsed, how will this work with rebellion since its on steam now instead of Impulse / GameStop App

According to a Stardock employee at https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/426255 , you can have two players (And only two) share a single game of Trinity. Any more and you need to purchase more licenses/games.

I don't know if this extends to Rebellion, but someone said you can just launch Steam in offline mode to get around it.
