All kidding aside, they are annoying and look like forum sigs when they display right and look weird when they don't.

I was initially pissed when I saw them, I can't stand the fact that ads online are getting more and MORE intrusive, however as long as these ads are for stardock products only(As they are now) my wrath will be stayed, after all it does make sense for a company to advertise their products on their site.

If you're using Chrome or Firefox you can use adblock.  I can't abide wayward advertising, and other game forums do without them just fine.

At least they're not popups or javascript minigames.  Those are a dealbreaker.

I'm annoyed by them because this forum has a huge amount of empty space on both sides, and yet they jammed them into the middle of the thread requiring more scrolling to get past them.

Sticking a banner ad in the middle of the thread on a professional website is just tacky and amateur looking.

I'd assume it's because their playerbases are more segregated than they would prefer (more people playing more of their games=more money) and they want to change that.
