Games seem to take quite long (even small maps) - Pirate Raids

Hi All,

Enjoying the game so far but it seems to me that pirate raids happen all too often. Im playing on normal and I make progress but it seems that pirate raids come every 5 minutes or so (maybe its 10 not sure), but anyway ... It seems to really slow down the game with no real reward in fun factor. My larger ships do level up etc but that's about all the benefit there is really. Maybe if they happened less often?

Any thoughts?

Pirate raids happen every 15 minutes. Many players like myself almost always play with them off, and you should certainly play with them off if you're learning the game. Also competitive multiplayer always has them off as well.

I actually agree, there should be option to set the frequency of the pirates. I too feel that they are a bit too often for my taste.

At the same time I do want to play with pirates, they provide extra dimension and the reason to make defenses on some planets.

Pirates are meant for FFA games, where they can be used to keep one player busy while you attack another.  In 1v1 they break the game (getting two pirate raids in a row on your opponent is probably game over), while in larger games they are irrelevent (oh no, pirates are attacking one planet of one player in an 80 planet game).  Ironclad has NEVER managed to nail the balance on them, and probably never will unless they change the ebay system.

I strongly suggest any new players turn them off, only adding them in if you know what you're doing.

Didn't know I could turn them off  . I'll give that a go.(I do like the idea but the way its implemented seems more annoying than fun right now. )

Thx Guys,

Well,

Turning if off completely solves one problem but kinda makes the game abit boring with nothing at all coming at you .... hmmmm .... guess it just needs some balancing in single player.?

If the game seems too easy, make the AI's harder. ;) I don't know what they did but even unfairs have a nasty habit of sneaking up and attacking you where you don't expect it.

As for game speed, I find Flagship and capital victory modes really help the game go faster. Along with faster game speeds of course.
