No Campaign?

So I read the PC Gamer review and it said no campaign but I dont know whether it meant no scripted campaign or no dynamic campaign as in Civ style mode where you can create a large map and play for however long as you want and you get to set the settings however you want with as many AI as you want. Which one did they mean?

There is no scripted campaign. There is still single player where you can play against the AI with custom settings and on many different maps, both premade and randomly generated. Its just RTS games don't have to vocabulary for games that specialize on that, so it gets diminished by critics as a mere "skirmish mode".

That is the one that I was looking for. The devs should just rename it to dynamic campaign so it can have that buzz word ring to it. I recently bought Endless Space and while I like the 4X side of the it, the battle part is lacking so how big can the battles in  Rebellion get; is there also a lot of different playstyles that you can do and different ways to pre occupy yourself since i heard the battles can last for hours.

The actual fleet on fleet combat is decided within minutes however the games themselves DO last for hours, and just because you manage to wipe out a huge fleet sent at you does not necessarily mean you have victory in your grasp.

Then again if you want a long battle send flak against flak, that will take quite some time to determine XD

Well lets define a battle. Fighting over a grav well can take a long time. Sometimes hours.

On slow ship speeds, and with both sides constantly reinforcing their fleets, Ive seen 15+ (EDIT:mins) battles easily with the AI.

There was a youtube video of one person battle where it lasted over an hour for 1 grav well. It was a neat video to watch, both sides going back and forth.

It says there are 3 factions but are there more of than that you can place on the map when in skirmish mode?

1 on 1 it actually does takes minutes for anything to destroy its mirror match. For most RTS games that is at most 20 seconds, so by RTS standards the battles do take a long time. If its two large fleets with good defensive support ships it could easily take minutes. And if its a planet siege with starbases, repair bays and titans going at it, that's longer still. If both sides are constantly producing reinforcements it could theoretically last forever, I know I had at least one siege last a half hour, perhaps it was an hour. If the sides aren't evenly matched then naturally it will be much shorter.

There are three main races, but each is divided into two sub faction. They specialize in different areas, have some unique abilities and research, and have totally different titan ships. So there is technically six different factions you can assign players too, plus random.

3 factions, 2 sub factions each.

Up to 10 players. You can have more than 1 sub faction represented.

I thought you hated playing against the Advent. Taking your frustrations out on the AI?;)

Dynamic campaign... I can only imagine the threads about how they were lied to about rebellion having a campaign and I want my money back had they done that ;)

EDIT: The description explains that this clip is from an 90+ battle at just one asteroid.
