Competative Community?

Hello, I've been playing SoaSE since its first release but only mostly vs AI. Now I was considering getting a bit better and playing multilayer vs Humans. So my question is this: How big is the competitive community on SoaSER (or if its too early to say, in older versions), are there tournaments or similar events?

There are a lot of competitve multiplayer games online... but there is no turnyes, matchmaking, elo, automapdownload and so forth. The devs really need to be bugged to get them to see the need for these basic support features.
