Struggling in a skirmish.. need suggestions

So I've only recently got into this series, and as such, I'm very bad at it still.

In one skirmish at the moment, I've got a vastly dominant position ~ 80% of the solar system, and I just need to destroy this enemy navy so I can wipe them out.

The problem is that everything I've tried ends in complete disaster. I've maxed out my capital ships and fleet supply, sent in everything (with repair ships, command ships, a balance of capital ships, carriers, a titan), and I get my tail handed to me on a platter.

The issue boils down to their titan being very high level (5 or 6) and mine is only level 2 or so.

Another problem is that as soon as I move my fleet (to, for example, take out the pirate base to rank up my titan) they'll invade me and I go down.

Tech tree and so on I'm fully unlocked - does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Thanks

What's happening and how to fare better mainly depends on what faction you are playing with and against. There are some setups that would put you into a less than advantageous position 0=)

So, explain a little bit more, please.

Remember that your Titan keeps its XP even when it dies.

Suicide it against this fleet and take down as much as possible for XP then rebuild to repeat. Also, maybe build more bombers as well.

I'm playing as TEC Loyalists, playing against the Psi Order Zealots.

I've got, really, two paths to their bases, but if I move my fleet at all they jump in on (admittedly what is a useless gravity well) me.

As a Loyalist you should be able to fortify your planets with 2 starbases each. Additionally they are highly durable. So try to place two in those wells they can jump in to, get them all armor and Security Protocol Override. Then jump in their system and shoot away at all that he's left. Should your starbases prove inable to survive his onslaught use Security Protocol Override on both of them (at 50% hull points, e.g.) and kill his fleet with it.

The rest is just cleaning up.

Psi Order Zealots does not tell us much. Are they Advent Rebels or Loyalists?

I would vote for the Loyalist since they are more zealous than the rebels. That is if zealous equals vengeful and doesn't equal pious and peaceful. Besides, vengeful and pious both do explode nicely after Security Protocol Override. So this is more of an academic interest I reckon.

Okay, I finally did it..

It took an awful lot of sacrifices, most of their capital ships were rank 9 or higher. Plomping two star bases in enemy territory while the capitals got destroyed and then rebuilding the capitals worked quite well. Expensive, but it worked.

Taking out the Titan took the best part of like half an hour and lots and lots of capitals being sacrificed. It didnt help that it was also covered by a nearby starbase...

It hurt, but victory!

12 hours of gameplay, heh

Not what I meant but hey, congrats for choosing the hard way and winning nonetheless. =)

Well, with the capital ships on full defensive abilities (health, shield regen, whatever), i could hold them off for long enough to get my two starbases out, upgrade their health, then their fighters, then their lasers. It worked quite well, I have to say.
