Help with Galaxy Forge/Map editting...

I need some help with a map I am creating.  Basically wanted to create a 1v2v2/1v4 map where player 1(or 0 to Galaxy Forge) gets a middle star system of 5 total stars.  I have made the map so the "player in the middle" gets all the artifacts and that part works, but I cannot get a planet to have a specific planet bonus.  Galaxy Forge only has the "Crystal Miners" bonus to add from there (is this gonna be fixed/why only this one?).  This shouldn't be a problem because I am able to edit the map directly in notepad to add the bonus I want.  But this doesn't seem to work .  I added the "CrystalMiners" bonus with Galaxy Forge so all I had to do was replace "CrystalMiners" with whatever I wanted in notepad.  For example "CavernSystem" per Entity.manifest, but I am still getting a random bonus for the planet.  Also, is there a limit to how many bonuses on a planet? Is the limit a combination of 2 (either bonus/bonus or bonus/artifact)?  Thanks to anyone who can solve this for me.

The problem is the GalaxyScenarioDef file in the base game doesn't know what "CavernSystem" is. So if you add more things to the GalaxyForge you also need to make those same changes in a modded GameInfo GalaxyScenarioDef file. The map can then be run, but only if you have the mod.

Also FYI the max number of planet bonuses is three per planet. Any more than that and I think they'll start replacing each other.

Well...that stinks...I haven't looked into making a mod and definately don't want to make a mod just for a single map.  Gonna try making a copy of that file and adding the bonus in manually.  I'm assuming it will work as long as I don't try to play MP...We'll see lol

 

Any ideas where to find a quick start guide to modding?  I eventually to wanna mmake a rebalance mod of sorts (increase weapon range of defensive structures/starbases...that sort of thing)

Once my Enhanced 4X mod gets ported to Rebellion it has all of the planet bonuses already added, so you could use your map with that mod. Others may also have done it, not for sure on any released ones though.

Ok. Sorry for being such a noob, but I did some quick research and created the mod and put it where it is supposed to be.  It shows up in-game in the mods section and I enabled it...no change to my map thoug.  planet in question still gets a random bonus...What am I missing?

Does your mod have a checksum that isn't zero? If its zero you probably got some internal folder set error (extra folders, misspelled folders) going on. If it isn't zero, make sure the GalaxyScenarioDef files have the bonuses spelled exactly the same in the GalaxyForge and in the mod.

Working on debugging it now...I think I had some extra spaces sneak in the text at then end of some of the lines...testing now.

 

Checksum is 58181 (58177 after removing the extra spaces)

Wait a minute....line 788 is a playerTypeCount and would be line 778 if I hadn't added 3 bonuses...Is the game looking for certain thing in specific places.  If so, where do I put my bonuses....

 

Edit: nope, I was wrong...screw me sideways!  For something so simple this is about to make me spit fire and chew lead...sheesh

 

Question...Should my modded Galaxydef file ONLY include my changes?  Meaning it should only have the bonuses I want and not everything else cause I just copied the file and added my bonuses....

 

Edit: nope...that didn't work either...get a different error whining about startype on line 1....OMG

Woohoo, I think I got it.  I missed the line "planetItemTypeCount".  It was 145, I added 3 so I needed to change it to 148.  Mod now enabled/applied....will see if it works now

YES, it worked.  I got my 3 bonuses plus an extra random one...I'll take it.  Thanks Goa, you rawk heavily.  I never would have figured this out this quickly without your help.

Aside from the blood curdling, insanity inducing, fire breathing frustration this was....it was fun.  Modding here I come! woohoo!

Goa, give me a heads up when your mod is converted.  I would really like to try it!
